FAIRHOPE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT BOARD
Minutes for meeting March 24th, 1977
The Fairhope Municipal Airport Board met in a called session on
Thursday, March 24th, 1977, at 8:15 A.M., at the City Administration Building,
387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama with Chairman J. Russell Kilgore
presiding.
The following members were present: Billy Don Wiggins and Mr. James E.
Gaston. ( Mr. Gaston arrived at 9:00 A.M.)
Also present was Mr. Aust of Aust-Ponder Engineers.
The minutes of the February loth, 1977 meeting were approved with the
following correction:
The meeting was opened with a bid opening for the Agricultural Lease.
Mason McGowin submitted a bid quoting a price of $ 25.00 per acre,
per year for a three (3) year period.
Chairman J. Russell Kilgore informed members of a letter he received from the
State Highway Department requesting approval for resurfacing the road
( County 32 ) near the Airport. Chairman Kilgore stated that since the
road was near an Airport the Federal Government required approval. This letter
will become a part of these minutes.
Chairman Kilgore told members of a letter which he received from the Airport
District Office of the Federal Aviation Administration regarding a compliance
and facilities inspection of the Fairhope Municipal Airport .The following
problems were cited as needing correction:
1. Grass needs mowing around all lights.
2. Threshold lights are in need of repair.
3. Runway lights need repairing, including some
that need new bands to hold the globes on the
bases.
Other than the above, the Airport inspection was found to be satisfactory .
Chairman Kilgore said that the above items have been or were in the process
of being corrected. This letter shall become a part of these minutes.
Chairman Kilgore brought members up to date on the timetable on the Airport Project,
with work to start around June 14th, 1977.
The Bill for aerial photos was presented for paymentin the amount of $ 104.00
payable to Thigpen Photo�caphy . Billy Don Wiggins moved, seconded by Chairman
Kilgore to approve the bill for payment. Motion carried.

Mr. Aust, of Aust-Ponder Engineers and Board members discussed the requirements of
the Federal Aviation Administration regarding the Engineer's contract.
A lengthy discussion followed on the Airport Layout Plans. It was agreed to
pursue the purchase of additional land for relocating the future apron as shown on
the previous Airport Layout Plans to the west side of the runway in the vicinity
of the existing apron.
There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and carried,
the meeting adjourned.
