HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-05-2012 Historic Fairhope Preservation CommitteeHISTORIC FAIRHOPE PRESERVATION COMMITTEE Minutes from the meeting of July 5,2012 : Attendees: Gary Gover Joe Birindelli Sissy Birindelli Paul Mozley Kay Marriott Donnie Barrett Linda Jones Debbie Quinn No minutes had been recorded from the June 7th committee meeting as Linda Jones was not able to attend the meeting . HFPC Resolution: After locating the May 1998 'Resolution #595' that established the Historic Fairhope Preservation Committee, Gary was able to use the document to establish the language for the Bylaws for Subcommitees . After much review and condensing of the original resolution, he has created a first draft of the Bylaws for review by the committee members. Gary will continue his work on the document after input from next month's meeting . Once completed, the city has to approve the Bylaws . The members plan to submit the final document after the city elections . The committee discussed working on questions to present to candidates at upcoming election forums. Simple questions can be asked of each candidate about how they feel about planning and zoning and supporting historic preservation . Groups interested in historic preservation should be invited to these forums to ask questions. Historic Properties : Nancy Milford will be asked to look into 'demolish permits'. The committee can track how many historic properties are torn down each year and report on them in the newspaper. Award Ceremonies should be organized to acknowledge owners for their efforts in renovating historic properties. Local artwork can be used to fill the empty storefronts and windows of several closed businesses . Debbie will speak to the 'street artists' about this proposal. Theatre 98 has serious issues with its roof. The historic building is city owned and is leased to a business that is responsible for its upkeep. Debbie will speak to them about a new roof and available grants wh ich could amount to $2 ,500 or more. The city has recently given $75 ,000 for the newly constructed theatre anex building . Next Meeting : The next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012@ 9:30 am at the Fairhope Museum . minutes prepared by Linda Jones
