Falls • Most falls in kitchens are due to wet floors • To avoid slipping and falling, it's important to wipe up any spills that occur immediately and dry the floor. • Warning signs should be properly displayed after mopping until the area has dried. • Passageways should be kept free from any obstructions or obstacles to avoid trips, slips and/or falls. II . Exposure to Hot and Harmful Substances • Always ensure that hot liquids such as water, coffee, or oil are covered when not directly working with them. • Be careful when carrying any pans or containers with hot liquids that could potentially splash and scold either yourself or fellow workers. • Cleaning materials, if handled incorrectly, can cause skin conditions such as rashes. • Make sure to remove expired food and beverage products from the kitchen. ------------------------ III . Fire Safety in the Kitchen • Make sure kitchen appliances are completely free of any materials that could catch fire, such as paper and cloth towels, unused oil, or grease buildup. • Make sure that all fire extinguishers are up to date and working properly. ------ James P.
