HISTORIC FAIRHOPE PRESERVATION COMMITTEE Minutes from the meeting of August 2, 201 2: Attendees : Harriet Gutknecht Kay Marriott Donnie Barrett Joe Birindelli Sissy Birindelli Ordinance: Ralph Thayer Gary Gover Ross Hobbs Linda Jones The Horizon 2025 comprehensive plan la id out guide lines for land use and development. It was approved three years ago, but has rec ent ly been rejected by the Baldwin County Commission. A revised Master Plan , prepared by the Plann ing and Zoning Commission , "shall not unlawfully infringe on protected private property rights without due process of law". With new state laws now going into effect, the commitee members agreed to pospone the presentation of the Pr eservation Ordinance . Demol ition Permits : Sissy reported on the number of demo-permits for the period from July 1, 2011-June 30 , 2012. During this 12 month period, 34 perm its were approved. 15 were for interior/ or less than 50% of the structure. 19 permits were given for total demolitions. Demolitio n permits are public information. Sissy suggested placing an 'officia l notice' in the newspaper to inform the public about the loss of these buildings . Theatre 98 : The committee discussed the roof repair/replacement to the circa 1919 buiding . Mr. Eslava , Director of Parks/ Public Works , will provide a roof estimate . The roof has been cosmetically patched over the years and it is the responsibility of the city to prov ide major repairs . The committee can use resources to get grants of $2,500. Historic Fairhope Pres . Comm ittee Resolution: Gary reviewed the Bylaws For Subcommittees and ask ed for feedback from the members . Linda suggested add ing that a subcommittee routine ly address the committee members and keep them up to date with the progress of th eir project. This had not been the case with the Homes Tour Committee. Downtown Artwork : Andy Overstreet has completed and delivered four draw ings to the museum: The Courier building, The K-1 , Theatre 98, and The Museum. Debbie Kingrea has completed 1/2 the artwork from the Homes Tour but is no longer able to complete the project. It is expected that the Homes Tour Committee will get someone to complete the art for the remaining homes. Other Business : Linda will update the Hom es Tour Proceeds Chart. Joe discussed the Veteran's Statue wh ich will be placed on the bluff and possibly dedicated on Veteran's Day . There had been some problems with the stone suppliers for the fountain base . Lee Vernielle and J . Pate are helping with the project and are researching another stone supplier. The statues , themselves , are almost completed . .. , Ne xt Meeting: No meeting is scheduled for September.
