HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-22-2019 Regular Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 22 July 2019. Present were Council President Pro Tempore Jay Robinson, Councilmembers: Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Keyin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council President Jack Burrell was absent. There being a quorum present, Council President Pro Tempore Robinson called the meeting to order. The inyocation was giyen by Associate Pastor Chris Peters of Trinity Presbyterian Church and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. President Pro Tempore Robinson stated there was a need to add on an agenda item after Agenda Item Number 22: a resolution that Mayor Karin Wilson is hereby authorized to execute a contract for Professional Seryices for closing costs and title insurance on the K-1 Center, the James P. Nix Center, and Fairhoper's Community Park property purchases with Kopesky & Britt, LLC with a cost not-to-exceed $15,000.00. Councilmember Conyers moyed to add on the aboye-mentioned item (s) not on the printed agenda. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously by yoice vote. Councilmember Brown moved to approve minutes of the 8 July 2019, regular meeting; minutes of the 8 July 2019, work session; and minutes of the 8 July 2019, agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council with the following Power Point Presentation found at the end of the minutes. She also recognized City Treasurer Kim Creech who negotiated General and Reserve Funds and by end of 2020 will bring approximately $500,000.00 additional funds for the City. The following individual spoke during Public Participation for Agenda Items: 1) John Manelos, 104 White Avenue, addressed the City Council regarding the K-1 Center with FEEF STEAM Center, Performing Arts Center, Arts and Cultural Activities/Education. He said the most important element will be engaged citizens like the online survey. He mentioned Ryan Baker and his rendering based on citizen input. 8436 22 July 2019 The following individual spoke during Public Participation for Non-Agenda Items: 1)Clarice Hall-Black, Twin Beech Road, addressed the City Council regarding the smell from the lift station since she has lived in the area; and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Mayor Wilson replied an engineer will be putting in a filtration system. Ms. Hall-Black said this area needs to be corrected and has been this way for some time. Councilmember Conyers moved to adjourn the meeting. Councilmember Brown, motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
