HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-14-2008 Special Meeting4729 STATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in Special City Council meeting at 10:00 a.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Tuesday, 14 October 2008. Present were Council President Robert C. Gentle, Councilmembers: Debbie W. Quinn, Cecil Christenberry, and Michael A. Ford, City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Councilmember Daniel Stankoski, Mayor Timothy M. Kant, and City Attorney Marion E. Wynne were absent. There being a quorum present, Council President Gentle called the meeting to order. Council President Gentle explained that the meeting was to canvass the votes from the October 7, 2008 Municipal Run-off Election and to open and count the provisional ballots. Councilmember Ford moved to allow City Clerk Lisa Hanks to open and count the provisional ballots. Seconded by Councilmember Christenberry, motion passed by the following votes: AYE - Quinn, Christenberry, Ford and Gentle. NAY — none. City Clerk Lisa Hanks read the results of the provisional ballots to the City Council. Ms. Hanks stated that there were five provisional ballots and only four were accepted by the Baldwin County Board of Registrars. Councilmember Ford introduced in writing, and moved for the adoption of the following resolution, a resolution to Canvass the 2008 Municipal Run -Off Election. Seconded by Councilmember Christenberry, motion passed by the following votes: AYE - Quinn, Christenberry, Ford and Gentle. NAY — none. 4730 14 October 2008 CANVASS RESOLUTION Resolution No. 1467-08 WHEREAS, the General Run -Off Election for the City of Fairhope was duly and legally held on Tuesday, 7 October 2008, as provided by law; and, WHEREAS, the Municipal governing body of the City of Fairhope met on this 14th day of October, 2008, all members thereof being present, at 10:00 o'clock a.m. and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of voters received by each candidate; and, WHEREAS, the said municipal governing body has ascertained and determined the result of said election as follows: CANDIDATE BOX NO.1 BOX NO.2 BOX NO.3 ABSENTEE MACHINE SUBTOTALS PROVISIONAL BALLOTS TOTALS FOR MAYOR Timothy M. KANT received a majority of the votes casted for the office of MAYOR and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning 3 November 2008. 2. THAT DANIEL R. STANKOSKI received a majority of the votes casted for the office of Councilmember PLACE NO.2 and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning 3 November 2008. Yanks, Cify Clerk 4732 14 October 2008 Council President Gentle announced that two other candidates were at the meeting and needed to be recognized: Willie Bean Roscoe P. Coltrane and Finn McCool. Willie Bean, a canine, is with the Independent Party and received 2,893 votes from around the world. Finn McCool, a feline, is with the Librarian Party and received 150 votes from within the Fairhope jurisdiction.
