HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-23-2004 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 23 August, 2004. Present were Mayor Timothy M. Kant, Councilmembers: Robert C. Gentle, Michael A. Ford, Debbie W. Quinn, Pauline Anders, and Cecil Christenberry; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk/Treasurer Geniece W. Johnson. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Kant called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and Wayne Smith Purchasing Agent, gave the invocation. Councilmember Gentle moved to approve minutes of the 9 August, 2004, regular meeting, and the minutes of 18 August 2004 Special Council meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Ford, the minutes for 9 August 2004 were approved and passed unanimously. The minutes for 18 August 2004 were approved and passed by the following vote: AYE -Gentle, Ford, Kant, Anders and Christenberry. NAY — none ABSTAIN -Quinn (Councilmember Quinn was not present for this meeting). Rebecca Byrne, Casi Callaway, Teko Wiseman, and Terry Harley, representatives of the Grandman Triathlon Event, addressed the City Council thanking the City Council of their support in their Grandman Triathlon. This event will take place at the Fairhope Municipal Pier on June 18, 2005. City Council reviewed an application for Beer/Wine On/Off Premises License by Brad Wintzell dba Autry Greer & Sons, Inc. (Tiger Liquors), located at 75 Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama. Councilmember Quinn moved to approve the issuance of the license. Seconded by Councilmember Gentle, motion passed unanimously. City Council reviewed an application for a Restaurant Liquor License by Doug Warren dba Homestead Village Alabama LLC, located at 924 Plantation Boulevard, Fairhope, Alabama. Councilmember Anders moved to approve the issuance of the license. Seconded by Councilmember Ford, motion passed unanimously. City Council reviewed an application for a Special Retail License (One time event) by James A. Ketchum, dba Andree's Wine Cheese & Things, Inc., located at 403 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama. (This is for the South Baldwin United Way's Fairhope Festival of Wine and Art being held October 16, 2004 at the Lyons Share, at 330 De La Mare Avenue). Councilmember Ford moved to approve the issuance of the license. Seconded by Councilmember Gentle, motion passed unanimously. 3387 23 August 2004 Councilmember Quinn moved to address a bid for a trailer for the Gas Department. This item was not on the printed agenda. Seconded by Councilmember Gentle, motion passed unanimously. Identification: "TRAILER - GAS DEPr, Bids must be received no later than: Friday. Auaust 20, 2004 at: 4:00 p.m. Trailer for use by the Gas Department for transporting heavy equipment. VENDOR: AMOUNT. Steve Seay, Gas Dept. Superintendent Wayne Smith, Purchasing Agent Councilmember Quinn moved to accept the low bid of Truck Equipment Sales, Mobile, Alabama, provided all specifications are met. This trailer will be paid for out of Gas Operations. Seconded by Councilmember Ford, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Kant announced that a meeting with Elizabeth Brown with the State Historic Preservation has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at 11: 00 a.m. in the Delchamps Suite. This meeting is set to resolve the funding for the new Public Library. There being no further business, Mayor Kant adjourned the meeting at 5:48 p.m., until 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25th, in the Council Chamber, at which time the Council will canvass the results of the 2004 Municipal Election, to be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2004. Councilmember Gentle introduced in writing, and moved for the adoption of the following resolution Canvassing the 2004 Municipal Election.
