HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-24-2003 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA )( 3232 COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 24 November 2003. Present were Mayor Timothy M. Kant, Councilmembers: Robert C. Gentle, Michael A. Ford, Debbie W. Quinn, Pauline Anders, and Cecil Christenberry; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk/Treasurer Geniece W. Johnson. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Kant called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and City Clerk/Treasurer Geniece W. Johnson, gave the invocation. Councilmember Quinn moved to approve minutes of the 10 November 2003, regular meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Gentle, motion passed unanimously. Christopher Baker, Director of Planning and Building, addressed the City Council to recognize the World Town Planning Day Winners. The City of Fairhope Planning Department and the Fairhope Middle School work together in an effort to celebrate "World Town Planning Day". The students will develop and design a city that contains different land uses that work together to make a city. The students will use creative thought, problem solving, and art skills to develop and build their cities. The overall winners were Marissa Wilkins and Jennifer Brown. The overall winners will ride in the Christmas Parade on the Fire truck with Santa Clause. The winners were given gift certificates for desserts from the downtown merchants of Fairhope. Mayor Kant announced that he had received a letter from Sam W. Irby with Irby & Heard, P.C. requesting that the Public Hearing regarding the Regions Financial Corporation Tax Department be rescheduled for the Fairhope City Council. This was a request to re -zone the property of Regions Financial Corporation Tax Department from B-4 Business and Professional District to B-2 General Business District with deed restrictions. The property is located at the Northwest corner of Morphy and U. S. Highway 98. Mayor Kant also announced that this is the last time that this item will be rescheduled, and that the City Council will take action next time on this item. One Appointment to the Tree Committee to replace Ken Richardson (Deceased). Councilmember Anders moved to appoint Paul Fontenot for a 3-year term ending November 2006. Seconded by Councilmember Gentle, motion passed unanimously. 24 November 2003 3233 Councilmember Gentle moved to work with/grant the request of the Mardi Gras MGs requesting permission to display their British cars on the grass area at the Northeast corner of Bancroft and Fairhope Avenue during the annual Arts and Craft Festival in March of 2004, from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Seconded by Councilmember Anders, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Kant appointed Councilmember Quinn, Councilmember Christenberry, Public Works Superintendent Jennifer Fidler, and Assistant Police Chief Michael Comalander to work on the request by Jeff Pollock requesting permission to use the Fairhope Municipal Pier for the Pelican Point Triathlon, to be held Saturday June 19, 2004. Councilmember Gentle moved to reschedule the next Regular Council meeting to Thursday, December 4, 2003, due to National League of Cities meeting, and the deadline for submitting items for the December 4, 2003 agenda will be Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at noon. Seconded by Councilmember Quinn, motion passed unanimously. There being no further business to come before the City Council the meeting was duly adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
