HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-05-2000 Regular Meeting2482 STATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 p.m.; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Monday, 5 June 2000. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers: John V. Duck, Michael A. Ford, Debbie W Quinn, Jeanette Puckett, and William H. Jones; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne, and City Clerk Geniece W. Johnson. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Councilmember Duck moved to approve minutes of the 15 May 2000, regular meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Quinn, motion passed unanimously. A Public Hearing advertised on a proposed ordinance to amend the Zoning Ordinance 557 will be continued on Monday, 26 June 2000 at the request of Trae Corte and Jim Tanner. The proposed ordinance considers the request of Trae Corte for a clarification of the Commercial Aspects of the Original Rock Creek PUD, and for Site Plan Approval, located on the Northeast corner of Rock Creek Drive and US Hwy 98. A Public Hearing advertised on a proposed ordinance to amend the Zoning Ordinance 557 will be continued on Monday, 26 June 2000 at the request of Director of Planning and Building Christopher Baker. A proposed ordinance to allow further application of the R3PGH District and to delete the existing Planned Unit Development Provision and establish a new more simplified PUD Process. Councilmember Duck introduced in writing, and moved for the adoption of the following resolution. Seconded by Councilmember Puckett, motion passed unanimously. 5 June 2000 2483 Resolution No. 699-00 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, that Mayor James P. Nix is authorized to accept a Sanitary Sewer Easement from Unified Credit Trust (Owners: Marie G. Percy, Paul Frederick Percy, Michael G. Percy and Robert Edward Percy). Johnson, tity Clerk Councilmember Jones arrived 5:34 p.m. Council reviewed an application for a Beer/Wine Off -Premises License by William C. Gravat III, dba Chuck's GLD Inc., Located at 9990 Fairhope Avenue. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the issuance of the license. Seconded by Councilmember Duck, motion passed unanimously. Richard Pruitt addressed the City Council requesting permission to enter a food trailer, train ride and miniature fire truck in the 4tn of July festivities at Fairhope Pier. Mr. Pruitt would run the rides from the Pavilion area down around the duck pound. Councilmember Jones moved to grant the request provided that the Police Department concurred and would be authorized to close the rides if traffic problems occurred. Mr. Pruitt will also coordinate his food booth with the Coordinator of the Festivities, Sherry Sullivan. Seconded by Councilmember Quinn, motion passed unanimously. (Police Department did not concur) 2484 5 June 2000 Councilmember Duck moved to grant the request of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce requesting to use the streets for the 49th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival on March 16, 17, & 18, 2001. The same streets and set up will be used as last year, and the Baldwin Pops Band will use the Bluff on Saturday evening, March 17th, for a concert. Seconded by Councilmember Jones, motion passed unanimously. Director of the Susans Sensation Dancers, Susan Wilcox addressed the City Council requesting the City Council to consider assisting 27 young people that will be representing the Eastern Shore, Alabama, and America as good will ambassadors at the 2000 Olympics in Australia. It will cost each Susans Sensation Dancers $3,800.00 to attend this event. Mayor Nix expressed that the Council would take this request under advisement. Seconded by Councilmember Puckett, motion passed unanimously. Tim Kant reported that the Founder's Park fields are complete and the grass is being planted. The seven soccer fields will open August 2000. 2488 05 June 2000 Councilmember Jones moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded Councilmember Quinn, motion passed unanimously.
