HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-13-1985 Regular Meeting657 STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 o'clock, PM, Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 13 May 1985. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and Barney L. Shull; City Attorney James Reid and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. Councilwoman Trisha Nelson was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the April 22nd regular session and the April 29th special session were duly approved. Mr. John Parker, representing Baldwin County United, invited the Mayor and Council to a June 19th breakfast meeting at the Gift Horse Restaurant in Foley at 7:00 o'clock, AM, at which time the pros and cons of zoning outside municipal limits will be discussed. Mr. Bobby Green represented his mother, Mrs. Lillian Green, Green's Nursery on Greeno Road, by requesting of the Council an exemption from the monthly $6.00 garbage fee assessed against all businesses located within the city. Mr. Green said they hauled their own garbage to the city dump and would like to know why they must be required to pay this fee. It was explained that the garbage fee does not cover the pick-up of garbage only, it also helpsdefray the costs of having a dump. It was also pointed out that giving an option on garbage service would most likely result in a very unclean city, and unsanitary dump. Mr. Green agreed. A public hearing was held on Mr. Matt Dial's request to vacate some right of ways in the Commercial Park Drive area as advertised. Mr. and Mrs. Dial, and their attorney, Mr. Ernest Bailey,were present. No one present was opposed to the request; however, City Attorney Reid felt the resolution of vacation was not correct and would have to be reworked. The hearing was continued to the next regular session on May 27th. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Bishop moved to open the one bid received on an infra -red camera for the Electric Department. Seconded by Council- man Shull, motion passed unanimously: Timsco, Inc., Mobile $14,500 Councilman Bishop moved to take the bid under advisement until the next regular session. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix advised he had been contacted by several persons interested in a street paving project. After some discussion, Councilman White moved to advertise that the City is considering a street paving assessments project and have everyone interested contact City Hall before the July 8th regular session at which time it can be determined if a project is needed. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. Mr. Pat McKee, representing the Volunteer Fire Department, reported that the men attended the Fire College and thanked the Council for making it possible. Councilman Shull moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded by Councilman White, motion passed unanimously. Meeting was duly adjourned. City .0 rc
