The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session
at 5:30 p.m. Fairhope Municipal Complex, 161 North Section Street,
Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 25 October 1982
Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White,
Trisha Nelson, David Ed Bishop, C.O. McCawley, and Sam E. Box;
City Attorney Jim Reid and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips.
Mayor Nix called the meeting to order and Councilman Bishop
opened the session with a prayer.
Minutes of the 11 October regular session and the 13 October
special session were duly approved.
Mayor Nix advised Council that the City will receive approximate-
ly $30,000.00 in oil lease funds from the County during the next
year and that these funds are to be used to resurface streets.
After some discussion, Councilman White moved that approximately
1 mile of Volanta Avenue be resurfaced first and any remaining funds
be used as needed on other streets. This work is to be done by
the County. Seconded by Councilman Box, motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Nix opened the floor for nominations for the following
Board appointments: One-2year term on the Airport Board(Council-
man McCawley's term having expired) and two-3 year terms on the Board
of Adjustments & Appeals(due to Peyton WA--r and Fred Dean Terms).
Councilman Box nominated Councilman McCawley for re -appointment to
the Airport Board. There being no other nominations., Councilman
Bishop moved to close the nominations. Seconded by Councilman
White, motion passed unanimously. Councilman McCawley is re -appoint-
ed to the Airport Board. Ccilman Box moved to re -appoint Mr.
Walker and to appoint Mr. D$ Wicklander to the Board of Adjustments
and Appeals. Seconded by Councilwoman Nelson, motion passed unani-
mously.
Councilwoman Nelson moved to approve the Recreation Board's
proposed 82-83 Budget. Seconded by Councilman Box, motion passed
unanimously.
Mr. Tom Pocase presented a proposal to the Council from a local
little theatre group, to be called Theatre 8:15, requesting a 5-
year lease on the old Civic Center Building on the corner of Church
& Morphy at a nominal yearly rent. The group would do some remodling
maintain the building and the grounds, carry insurance and pay utili-
ties. They would allow the present Sr. Aides Office, Faulkner Jr.
College Office, and ABC Board Office to remain as long as they wished
to do so. They were agreeable to signing an indemnification agree-
ment with the City. After some discussion, Councilwoman Nelson
moved to hold a Public Hearing on this request at the next regular
session and then make a decision. Seconded by Councilman Bishop
motion passed unanimously.

Councilman White moved to accept the low bid, provided all speci-
fications are met. Seconded by Councilman Box, motion passed unan-
imously.
Meeting was duly adjourned.
