Counci ember Councilmember Councilmember city llf—rk—j, 317 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in special session at 5:30 pm, City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, on Friday, 18 September•1981. The purpose of this meeting was to award a contract on the. Fuel Conversion bids opened at the last regular session and to discuss the land exchange with Fairhope Single Tax Corporation relative to a drainage project near Big Head Gully. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers David Ed Bishop, Roy C. White, Sam E. Box, and C. 0. McCawley; City Attorney Jim Reid and City Clerk Evelyn,Phillips. Councilwoman Nelson could not be present. Mayor Nix reported that the three bids on the Fuel Conversion had been studied and it is recommended that the bid be awarded to Nu -Fuel Systems, Inc. The apparent low -bidder, Ultra Fuels, Inc., did not include some $2,500 in freight charges and also the company is apparently not a responsible bidder since it is three men who work for the Gas Department of the City of Florence and do not have an office or a place of business. (Ultra Fuels bid was $84,190 w/option, Nu -Fuel's bid was $84,237 w/option (FOB Fairhope)). Mayor Nix also reported that Nu -Fuel had offered another deduction of $7,515 if the City will agree to use the Quincy compressor. After some discussion, Councilman Box moved to award the bid to Nu -Fuel Systems, Inc., by authorizing the Mayor to sign a 30-month lease -purchase plan for approximately 36 vehicles, using the Quincy compressor. Seconded by Councilman McCawley, motion passed unanimously. The Council discussed exchanging some 4 acres of land, located near the City Warehouse & Transmissions Unlimited building, for some 16 acres of land owned by the Single Tax Corporation, located in the Big Head Gully area. The 16 acres are needed to form a water detention area to aid drainage problems along Big Head Gully. It was suggested that the Tax Colony be asked about leasing the 16 acres instead of exchanging property before a decision is made. Meeting was duly adjourned. Q City Cler
