HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-06-1980 Regular Meeting214 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in organizational session at 7:00 p.m., City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, on 'Monday, 6 October 1980. This was the Organizational Meeting of the 1980-1984 Council. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers David Ed Bishop, Trisha Nelson, Roy C. White, and C.O. McCawley; City Attorney John Duck and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. Councilman Sam E. Box could not be present due to a business trip to England. Mayor Nix called meeting to order and introduced Dr. H.B. Shepherd, First Baptist Church of Fairhope, and Harry J. Wilters, Jr., Presiding Circuit Judge, 28th Judicial Circuit of the State of Alabama. Invocation by Dr. H.B. Shepherd. Oath of Office by Judge Wilters, words as follows, to duly elected Mayor and present Oomcilmembers in a body: "I , solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution owe United States and the Constitution of the State of Alabama: so long as I continue a citizen thereof; and that I will honestly and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter, to the best of my ability, so help me God." Councilman Box will take his Oath upon his return. Councilman Bishop moved to fill the office of Mayor Pro Tempore as follows: Box -10/01/80 to 07/31/81 (10 months) Bishop -08/01/81 to 05/31/82 (10 months) McCawley -06/01/82 to 03/31/83 (10 months) Nelson -04/01/83 to 12/31/83 ("9 months) White -01/01/84 to 09/30/84 ( 9 months) Seconded by Councilman McCawley, motion passed unanimously. Councilman McCawley introduced Ordinance No. 655, an ordinance estab- lishing the time, place, and rules of procedure of Council Meetings. Mayor Nix made the following committee appointments with Council approval: Gas, Water & Sewer - Electric, Library - Recreation & Parks - Finance & Audit - Streets, City Court Councilmember Box Councilmember Bishop Councilmember Nelson Councilmember McCawley Councilmember White;: (10/6/80) 215 Councilm man Nelson moved for all City Personnel to continue in their present positions until final appointments could be made.
