HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-12-1980 Special MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN We, the undersigned members of the Fairhope City Council, do hereby waive notice of a special called meeting to be held 12 June 1980 at 5:00 p.m., City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, for the purpose of hearing a report on the Health Office matter, adopting "Tow Away Zones" Ordinance, ren er counciimembee /i e/so41 Councilmember Councilmember 185 the City Council, City of Fairhope, met in special session at 5:00 p.m. City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama. 36532, on Thursday, 12 June 1980. Present were Mayor James P. Nix, Councihnenbers David Ed Bishop, C.O. McCawley, Jack A. Stipes, and Trisha Nelson; City Attorney John Duck and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. Councilman Box could not attend due to a prior carmitment. The purpose of this meeting was to hear a special report on the Health Office. Mayor Nix asked if the Council would hear two additional items --adopting an Ordinance creating Tow Away Zones and adding a referendum question to the City Election ballot relative to a Civic Center. After some discussion, Councilwoman Nelson moved to hear the Tow Away Zone Ordinance but not the Civic Center business at this time. Seconded by Councilman McCawley, motion passed unanimously. Councilman McCawley reported that the County Commissioners had advised they would lease a building at 328 DeLaMare Avenue, formerly the South Central Bell telephone office, for use as a Health Office. The County will pay the rental fees if the City will provide utilities. Councilman McCawley moved to approve this offer. Seconded by Councilwoman Nelson, motion passed unanimously. The Council thanked the County representatives, Commissioner Boyington and Health Officer Dr. St. Amant, and said this was a good example of County -City cooperation. Councilwoman Nelson introduced ORDINANCE No. 650, an Ordinance creating Tow Away Zones, the fines therefor, and providing for convictees to pay tow charges. In order to take action, Councilman McCawley moved to suspend the rules. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously by the following vote: AYE-Councilmanbers McCawley, Stipes, Bishop, -Nelson. NAY -none. Councilman Bishop then moved for final adoption of ORDINANCE No. 650. Seconded by Councilwoman Nelson, motion passed unanimously. Meeting was duly adjourned.
