COUNTY OF BALDWIN
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in
regular session at the Adult and Tourist Recreation build-
ing on Morphy Avenue, Tuesday, march 23, 1971 at 7:30 P.M.
with the following members present: mayor R. C. Macon,
Councilman: James P. Nix, John A. Robertson, .H. G. Bishop
and Sam E. Box, Councilman Robert H. Cowen being absent.
Minutes of previous regular meeting were -approved.
Residents of Fly Creek Area met with Council per-
taining to proposed Marina on Fly Creek and effect it would
have on surrounding residential property. No action taken
at this time.
Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman
Nix that Jaycees be given permission to use beach and pier
for July 4th festival with exclusive rights for concessions
with exception of established businesses in area and that
City again sponsor fireworks display as requested by Jay-
cees. Motion carried.
Mose Lovett requested City to open street from Valley
Street to Young Street. Council advised that first they
should have letters from property owners to City stating they
were willing to convey property for right-of-way.
The following bids were received on light poles:
Gulfport Creosoting Co. $2,786.95
Baldwin Pole and Piling Co. $2,569.91,
Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman
Robertson that City accept low bid of Baldwin Pole and
Piling Co., in amount of $2,569.91. Motion carried.
The following bids were received on Electric wire
and pole line hardware:
Hatfield & Co. $ 9,910.60
Moore Handley $109436.48
Nix and Fleming 3,856.91 (wire only).
Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman
Bishop that City accept low bid of Hatfield and Co., in
amount of $9,910.00 for wire and pole line hardware, pro-
vided bid meets specifications. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman
Nix that City purchase two truck loads 6" cast iron pipe.
Motion carried.
City Superintendent,: Jack Kirk, and Chief of
Police Leo Gilheart were authorized to get bids on two
1971 automobiles for their respective departments.
It was duly moved, seconded and carried that the
meeting adjourn.
