HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-08-1971 Regular MeetingSTATE OF A LABA MA COUNTY OF BA LDWI N The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the Adult and Tourist Recreation Building at 7:30 P.M. Monday, February 8, 1971 with the following members present: Mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: James P. Nix, John A. Robertson, Robert H. Cowen, Henry G. Bishop and Sam E. Box. Minutes of previous regular meeting were approved. Mr. Bob Bateman outlined work being done by Robert S. Bateman and Associates, Inc., with the Planning and Zoning Com- mission of the City of Fairhope. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Nix that the City advertise for public hearing on rezoning from R-2 to B-1, the following described property: Beginning at the N.W. Corner of the N. W. Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 2.0, Township 6 South; Range 2 East, run North 300 feet; thence East 300 feet; thence West 300 feet to the POINT OF BEGINNING. Motion carried. This being date set for Public hearing on rezoning from R-2 to B-1, Lots 17 and 18, Block 15, Volanta, no protests being heard, Councilman Bishop moved that the following Ordinance be introduced: ORDINANCE NO. 461 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 13, DISTRICT BOUNDARIES OF ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 295 be amended by rezoning from R-2 to B-1, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission, the fol- lowing described property: Lots 17 & 18, Block 15, Volanta Subdivision. Councilman Bishop moved that all rules governing the Council which might, unless suspended, prevent the passage and adoption of the Ordinance at this meeting, be and the same are hereby suspended for th=purpose of permitting the said Ordinance to be finally passed and adopted at this meeting. Councilman Cowen seconded the motion. The question was put before the Coun- cil and on roll call the vote was as follows: Yea: Councilmen: Nix, Robertson, Cowen, Bishop and Box, Nay: None. Motion adopted by unanimous vote of Council. Councilman Bishop moved that Or- dinance No. 461 be finally passed and adopted as introduced. I", Councilman Cowen seconded the motion. The question of final pas- sage was put to vote of Council, and on roll call the results were as follows: Yea: Councilmen: Nix, Robertson, Cowen, Bishop, and Box. Nay: None. Ordinance finally passed and adopted. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Nix that Resolution pertaining to Land Acquisition Policy Requirements introduced at the regular meeting of January 26, 1971 be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Nix that City extend 6" Water line from Fairwood Blvd., approximately 300' to the High School and install fire hydrant. Motion carried. 2 k Bathbouse at Young Street pool was discussed and Council agreed that bathhouse be started as soon as feasible. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that City correct drainage problems on mobile Avenue and White Avenue and mobile Avenue and Nichols Avenue at an ap- proximate cost of $900.00. motion carried. The following letter was read to the meeting and on motion by Councilman Bishop was made a part of the minutes of this meeting: January 21, 1971 Mr. Ira Steele Chief, Fairhope Fire Departm&- nt Fairhope, Alabama Dear Mr. Steele, We want to thank you and your support during the recent mallini fire here in Spanish Fort Estates. The manpower and equipment you sent aided us greatly. This fire was so terrible and its good to know that we have friends like you to lend a hand when necessary. Yours truly, Spanish Fort -Lake Forest Volunteer Fire Department S/ R. D. Geist, Jr. Council agreed to run 2" water line from existing 6" main on mobile Avenue to -Thomas property located South and East of Dun Rovin Apartments, Owner to pay cost of line. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that Mr. Dan Benton be appointed Special Prosecutor in Criminal Case No. 5520. motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Robert- son that $5,000.00 be transferred to Water and Sewer Accounts from Gas Gross Revenue Account. motion carried. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that bills be approved for payment. motion carried. It was duly moved and seconded that meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
