HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-06-1965 Regular Meeting.34 AIRPORT BOARD A pr i l 6, 1965 9 : OO P. M. Present: Or. Mullins Mr. Niemeyyer, Mr. Lacey, Mr. Wi tznadel, Mr. Harold Fates and ter. Ack Moore. Absent: None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. Mr. Lacey moved, Mr. Niemeyer seconded that they be approved. Motion carried. Mr. Ack Moore reported on his meeting with Mr. Lane Taylor of the F.A.A. concerning widening, lengthening and strength- ening of the present runway. Mr. Moore stated that in order to extend the runway 1800' it would be necessary to purchase 25.71 additional acres. Mr. Lacey moved, Mr. Nie eyer seconded, that the Airport Board ask the City Council foXrmission to apply for Federal assistance for the purpose of widening, lengthening and strengthening the present runway. Motion carried. Mr. Harold Yates of the Gulf Coast Experimental Station discussed soil erosion and recommended the purchase of low ggrowing centi- pede grass for sodding the wash area and an,overalI coverage of Bahia grass. Mr. Yates agreed to oversee this work. Dr. Mullins moved that the Airport Board ask the City to make available between Z1,000 and 09 200 for the purpose of erosion control. Mr. Lacey seconded. ko t i on carried. Dr. Mullins agreed to consult the Grand Hotel regarding their maintenance crew being made available for the seeding and sprigging. Mr. Niemeyer also agreed to check with other sources. Mr. Niemeyer reported that the City would install 2 lights at the entrance road. Mr. Witznadel to consult Mr. John Ferguson concerning the electrical hook-up. The Board agreed that lighting of the new sign was not necessary at this time. T-hangar rental fees were discussed. Two letters from the City of Albertville and the Talledega Airport Board were read and placed on file. Mr. Lacey moved that AAA,Air Service be requested to re-evaluate their estimate of T-hangar rental costs and report their intention right away to the Airport Board. Mr. Niemeyer seconded. Motion carried. Mr. Niemeyer reported on his meeting with the Wisteria Garden Club. Mr. Niemeyer moved, Mr. Lacey seconded that the Chairman write the Wisteria Garden Club and ask that they consider (April 6 meeting cont'd) including the Airport in their beautification plans for this year. Mr. Lacey seconded. Motion carried. Mr. Witznadel reported that he is still in the process of seeking.funds in order to buy paint for the center line striping. The Chairman asked that the Airport Manager discuss the future of AAA to the best of his knowledge. Mr. Witznadel stated that due to the tragic death of Mr. R. Ludger Lapeyrouse, President of AAA, Mrs. Lapeyrouse would assume his duties as President of the Company and Mr. Leo Deakle would assist her in the handling of business. Mr. Lacey moved that Mr. Niemeyer request Riviera Utilities to place a volt meter at the Airport and request further investigation of same. Dr. Mullins seconded. Motion carried.
