June 18, 2013
The Fairhope Airport Authority met Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. in the Delchamps Room,
City Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Chuck Zunk, Chairman. Members: Rod Platt, Howard Hadley, Charlie Bassett, Joe McEnerney,
Pam Caudill, Jack Burrell and James Gillespie; also, David Bagwell, lawyer. Gayle Fogarty, City Executive
Assistant took the minutes.
The minutes of the May 21, 2013 meeting were considered and approved on a motion 1s` by Charlie
Bassett, 2"d by Howard Hadley were approved and unanimously carried.
Update on "The Academy at Fairhope"- Charlie Bassett stated that - The Academy is expected to be
completed May of 2014, and ready for start of term August, 2014. Chairman Zunk added that the
construction building costs should now be reduced, as the building timeline has been pushed back.
Chairman Zunk added that he is attending weekly conference calls with the school board to review the
progress. Joe McEnerney asked what the cost of the entire project would be; Charlie replied it would be
about $2.5 million not including financing, legal, and other deal fees. Chairman Zunk added that the
delay of the opening would allow for more time to market The Academy to potential students.
Discussion of Festival of Flight tentative date — Chairman Zunk asked the group if interest was there to
host the Festival of Flight in 2014. Jack Burrell added that he didn't feel a date for a 2014 Festival of
Flight should be set, based on the uncertainty of the status of the sequestration. He will discuss with City
Council in the work session.
Discussion of Advantage Sites Program & Wetland Mitigation Bank — Chairman Zunk stated that a
resolution was approved at the last meeting and a cultural review is required. Rod Platt added that he
feels like Lee Johnson and Christopher Baker need to discuss exactly what the Airport Authority needs.
Chairman Zunk mentioned that he, Rod Platt, lee Johnson and Christopher Baker will set a meeting to
discuss.
Update on the East Side Project- Chairman Zunk stated that this is still in consideration, although no
action has been taken by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Update of Public Safety Hanger — James Gillespie stated that the upgrades are coming along. The
electric department is waiting on the framing to be completed. Chairman Zunk stated that the
improvements looked good and encouraged the Authority members to go out and visit the hanger.
Update on roof repairs for main FBO building and hangers — Howard Hadley has several options to
review for the FBO ranging from $80,000 to $150,000. Howard mentioned that he was looking at late
July to re -roof the building.
Treasurer's Report- Chairman Zunk sent a copy of the financials to the group by e-mail prior to the
meeting. There were no comments or questions from the Airport Authority members.
New Business- Jack Burrell informed the group that he would like the Fairhope Airport to be less
financially dependent on the City of Fairhope. lack would like to see a short/long term plan from the
Airport Authority. Chairman Zunk stated that he and Rod Platt would create a plan with time frames.
Chairman Zunk also talked about refinancing the main loan, after the loan for the Academy is settled.
