HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-05-1965 Regular Meeting32 AIRPORT BOARD February 5, 1965 Members present: Mr. Niemeyer, Mr. Lacey and Dr. Mullins. Guests: Mr. Witznadel, Mr. J. E. Gaston, Jr., Mr. Ed Warley and Mr. Charles Gay. Minutes of January 8 meeting were read and approved. Mr. Gay offered a magazine rack with Chamber of Commerce literature for the Airport office. Mr. Warley submitted his letter dated 2-5-65 re: purchase of additional land adjacent to the present runway. Mr. Lacey moved that the City be asked to purchase an option ✓ to purchase from Prine approximately 99 acres for extension of the runway. Mr. Niemeyer seconded. Carried. Dr. Mullins suggested that a letter be sent to F.A.A. re: minimum land requirements if runway is extended to 5000 ft. Mr. Lacey reported on liability insurance and recommended that the Cityy purchase 050,000 to 9100,000 General Liability insurance. Mr. Niemeyer agreed to further look into this. Mr. Gay discussed billboards in general and submitted a sketch. Dr. Mullins moved that the City consider the construction and erection of an industrial promotion for the City of Fairhope at the Airport. Mr. Lacey seconded. Carried. Mr. Witznadel reported generally on air traffic within the past week. Mr. Niemeyer moved that the charges of the field as outlined in Mr. Witznadel's letter of January 11, 1965 be approved. Mr. Lacey seconded. Carried. Or. Mullins discussed the need for an outside telephone. Mr. Niemeyer agreed to make a request for a public phone. Dr. Mullins suggested that the center of the field be striped. Mr. Niemeyer agreed to check with the State to see if their equipment could be used for the job. Mr. Witznadel agreed i to take care of the actual striping f the City could locate equipment. Dr. Mullins noted article entitled "Airport News" written by Mr. Witznadel, which appeared in the Fairhoi2e Courier. It was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn. Carried C. B.
