HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-19-2009 Regular MeetingThe Fairhope Airport Authority met Tuesday, May 19, at 4:30 PM at the City
Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street.
Present: Charles Zunk, Chairman; Members: Ken Knutsen, Charles
Bassett, Howard Hadley, Pam Caudill, Dan Stankoski. David Bagwell,
Attorney and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary were also present. Rod Platt was
visiting. Absent: Joe McEnerney
The minutes of the April 21, 2009 were considered and approved on motion
by Ken Knutsen, 2"d by Pam Caudill and unanimously carried.
Chuck reported that since the last meeting where he reported Gregg Mims
will be on board helping with airport issues he has had several meetings
with Gregg and things are moving along smoothly, they have accomplished
a great deal. He reported that the records will be kept at the Public Works
building and that he has kept some active files.
Aviation Technical Skills Training Academy — Chuck gave an update saying
that at the County School Board work session last week unanimous
endorsement was given to the concept as long as the two year college
programs participate. He said before long something will probably get
started. He said the Airport Authority will probably end up owning the
building and land. Charlie Bassett also commented on this.
Airport Annual Inspection Report by ALDOT — Chuck gave a report saying
this is routine, something done annually and we passed inspection.
Treasurers Report — Everyone had been provided a copy and Chuck said
the net status was unchanged and that we had gone through the cycle of
paying insurance bills and the next major item will be maintenance.
Strategic/Transition Planning — Pam Caudill had presented a draft of the
SWOT Analysis Summary. She asked if anyone had any thoughts. Ken
Knutsen commented that even if we wanted to expand we did not have any
money. Chuck said that he had talked to Bobby Odom and that he had told
him that FAA is recognizing now people who have designs and building
plans for down the road, and suggested that we get Volkert to do this. Ken
said why not do this, get a cost from Volkert on development of two
parcels. Ken said this is the next step, describe the area we want done.
Chuck said he will get back with Volkert, get more specifics. Howard Hadley
mentioned that there are a lot of people out there "shovel ready"; he asked if
we have zoning and was told yes, two miles from the airport. Discussion
followed among the members on how to proceed.
Pam said if anyone wished to send any input before final SWOT Analysis
printed she would appreciate it if it was done within the next week and then
we send it out and we could talk again at the next meeting.
There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned at 5:27.
