The Town Council of the Torn of Fairhope met in regular
session October 4, 1948 with the following members present:
"ayor, T.J. Klumpp, • Councilmen: PT.O. Berglin, J. T. Bradford,
Brad Niemeyer, Ed B. Overton and Ira Steele.
Y.ayor Klumpp appointed the following Council Committees:
Ira Steele - Recreation, Police and Wharves.
Brad PTiemeyer - Electric Utilities
Ed Overton - Fi,ra.nce
J. T. Bradford - .ater & Sewer, Fire Department and Sanitation.
Marvin Berglin - Street Department and Parks
Yotion by Councilman "iemeyer seconded by Councilman Bradford
that R. C..vohn be appointed temporary City Clerk for 90 days
period. Motion carried.
r Yotion, by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Steele
the following resolution on roll call was unanimously
adopted. Voting Aye: Hayor Klumpp, Councilmen 11.1.0. Berglin,
J. T. Eradford, Brad Niemeyer, Ed B. Overton and Ira Steele.
Voting Nay, Yone.
BE IT RESOLVED that R. C. Yohn be and he is designated to
make up the assessment roll of all property and subjects
of taxaticn in the Tom of Fairhope, for the taxes'to be-
come due December,l, 1948. Resolution adopted by the Council.
Yoved by Councilmen Bradford seconded by Councilman Overton
that the following resolution be adopted.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Fairhope,
t�,ere be and is hereby levied for general purposes, for the
year of 194p, a tax of one-half on one percentum of the
valise of all property and subject to taxation as assessed
for State Taxation during the preceeding year in the Town .
of Fairhope. '
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there be and is hereby levied
for the year 1948, for the purpose of acquiring, installing
and maintaining street lights and fire fighting equipment
and for the purpose of constructing, acquiri.rg, maintaining
and improving public property;)"a special tax of one-half of
one percentum of the value of all property and s»bects of
taxation in the •'Poem of Fairhope as assessed for State tax-
ation during the preceedirg year, as authorized by the result
of election held September 3, 1946.
�rHEREAS, under Amendment number VIII, Municipal Tax Arrendment,
to the Constitution of the State of Alabama, the'Town of
Fairhope is authorized and empowered to levy and collect an
additional tax of one-half of one percentum on the taxable
properties and subjects of taxation in the Toy,n of Fairhope
for the purpose of paying the principal of bonds and interest
thereon; and
WHEREAS the Town of Fairhope has outstanding bonds in the
sum of 412,000.00 and it is necessary and proper and to the
bao interest of the citizenry of the Tov,n of Fairhope• that such
tax be levied for such purposes;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that there be and is hereby
levied and shall be collected for the municipal tax year com-
mencing October 1, 1948, a tax of one-half of one per century
on all properties and subjects of taxation within the Town of
Fairhope for the purpose of paying the principal of outstand-
ing bonds of the Town of Fairhope and i.rterest' thereon;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the proceeds of such tax when
collected shall be kept separate and apart from other taxes
of the Town of Fairhope and shall be used exclusively for
the payment of the principal of the outstanding bonds of the
Torn of Fairho-oe and interest thereon.v,ren and.as the same
shall become due.

Motion by Councilman Steele seconded by Councilman Berglin
that Floyd Phillips be appointed Acting Chief of Police and
his salary be $210.CO per month. Motion Carried.
It was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn.
Motion carried.
