Sincerely, City of Fairhope Sincerely yours, P. L. Wilson, Presi P Lid t Jae J September 18, 1956 Mr. forge Tyson, Manager Water and Serer board Fairhope, Alabama Dear Mr. Dyson: I enjoyed sty visit to Fairhope on Friday„ September lip, 19560 in connection with an inspection of the Gity's sewage treat- ment facilities and I regret that you were out of town at the tims. I an pleased to advise that the plant was found to bq in excellent condition and operating satisfactorily. Mr. F. B, Wiggins accownanied me on the inspection of the plant. The plant operator, Mr. George Bush, was also present, According to Mr.Wiggim, soave difficulty has been experienced re- cently with filter flies and an insecticide had been purchased on a trial basis. Experience at other plants in Alabama has indicated that flooding of the filter on a rigid schedule during the periods of heavy infestation has resulted in an effective and economical control xiaimre. At prevailing; srrner temperature the life cycle of the fly is from eight to ten days so it is felt that the filter should be flooded at seven day intervals for effective control. Mr. Wiggins also advised that a stoppage has been experi- enced in the digester gas line. The control and regulator appurte- nances had been removed for checking.; at the time of my visit and gas was passing through the control equipment pit to the flame post. It was suggested that the stoppage nay be caused by an accumulation of water in a depression or low place in the gas line. Digester gas has a high moisture content and a low place in the gas line will col- lect moisture resulting in a stoppage until suffi.cieat pressure is built up in the digester to cause pasnap of tlh.+e gas. the gas should be piped through the pit to the flame post until the stoppage is corrected. Mr. 0 ge- Dyson -2- Septembe 1956 it 1 grant to main comend the personnel responsible for the appearance and operatian of the plant, Please feel tree to call can us in the event we may be of any assistance in, . connection with the plant.
