Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street at 8:OOAM
Present: Sue Mason, Chairman; Mike Baugh, Mike Ford, Colton Coile, Jack
Nelson. Absent: Khim Vira, Brad Harris. Betty Rivenbark, Secretary.
Charles Zunk was visiting and was welcomed.
Sue reported on the status of the current airport project. She said we are 40
days behind laying asphalt but said it was not due to IVAN. She will get an
update tomorrow. She said the FAA had given us 25% or 600,000 and
Geniece had applied for funds on land purchase. She said 05 project the
new grant will be enough money to finish the runway, relight runway, that
we will keep the lights on the old ramp but have new vault and contents and
a generator. Teledyne has also told her that they will have a generator.
She said that the dirt was being put south of the fuel farm and that is where
next parking lot will be. That we are looking to acquire an ILS system and
have been working on getting FAA to pay 100%. If we do they will install and
maintain. She said the trooper hanger the next big project we need to think
about.
As far as Ivan damage, that it has been estimated at $150,000. The
mysterious plane that was halfway tied down and left at the airport after
everything was shut down was talked about and the fact that it caused
damage to the middle hangar. Looking up the tail numbers is an option to
try and find the owner. Colton said it is all on the internet now. She said she
and Tommy Long, the City's General Superintendent, went out there. So far
the insurance adjustor has not been there. That everything is open. The
City if responsible for the outer structure and storm related damages.
She said the State Troopers are leasing space at the airport now and said
we have a site for the trooper hangar and has been talking with Chris
Browning about an auxiliary precinct for the police. Possibly site will need
5500 to 6,000 square ft.
Sue mentioned that Ron Humphrey was the new head of Teledyne in
Fairhope and that she has had no problem working with him.
