HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-09-2020 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present: Derek Thomas, Pat White, Corey Martin, Charlie Langham, Cathy Hudson (arrived at 5:30 p.m.), Bob Keyser and Vann Saltz. Absent: Jay Robinson and Michelle Smith. Gayle Fogarty took minutes. The meeting was called to order by Bob Keyser at 5:18 p.m. The minutes of the August 19, 2020 meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Corey Martin, none opposed. Recreation Update: Pat White informed the board that a construction meeting was held for the basketball court that will be installed at the Rotary Youth Club. Pat reminded everyone about the upcoming plaque presentation/memorial ceremony for Emily Dunnam on September 11, he added that a donation was made by the Fairhope Kiwanis Club for the project. Pat added that he is working on the Recreation department budget and revenue is down this year. The board also discussed the possibility of approaching the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation to help fund items on the 5-year plan. There was general discussion of the Recreation Board/City of Fairhope meeting with the Baldwin County Board of Education regarding field usage. There was discussion among the board regarding the 5-year plan. Bob stated that he will update the plan and bring it to the next meeting. There was also discussion of the board reviewing the Rec Board applications and make a recommendation to the City Council during the October meeting. Charlie Langham suggested that the entire City Council attend an upcoming meeting to review the Rec Board's 5-year plan. Cathy Hudson stated that FHS swim is underway, she added that morning and afternoon practices are taking place, and the first meet will be held at the end of the month. Corey Martin stated that there may be a freshmen basketball team this year. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:04 p.m.
