HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-15-2020 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present: Pat White, Corey Martin, Charlie Langham, Bob Keyser, and Vann Saltz. Absent: Cathy Hudson, Jay Robinson, Michelle Smith and Derek Thomas. Gayle Fogarty took minutes. The meeting was called to order by at 5:16 p.m. The minutes of the June 17, 2020 meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Vann Saltz, none opposed. New Business: Pat White informed the board that there was damage caused by the storm on July 12, 2020. There was damage to the fence at the baseball fields, varsity baseball batting cage and the Rec Center roof. Pat added that an insurance claim has been filled and reiterated the need to have a storm warning system available to be used while fields are being used. Corey Martin informed the group about the Alert Baldwin App that EMA manages, he suggested working with EMA to implement something in Fairhope. Pat informed the board that the Fairhope Storm won their first playoff game at home on July 11, 2020. He stated that the concession stand was closed during the last two games, and a food truck was on site and it was a success. Pat stated that Governor Ivey issued a mask mandate set to begin at 5 p.m. on July 16, 2020 and the order will be enforced throughout City recreation facilities. He added that if a visitor refuses to wear a mask, the state mandate will be explained to them, and if the visitor does not comply, then the Police Department will be contacted. Pat added that he will participate in a online software demonstration next week, the demo will review how to accept online payments, and the process of how teams can reserve field space online. There was general discussion among the board members regarding leaving fields unlocked at volanta and founder's park. Pat stated that he is looking at the possibility of taking over league basketball, there was general discussion among the board members. A motion was made by Vann Saltz to recommend to the Fairhope City Council that an Athletic Facility Coordinator position be added to the Recreation Department 2020-2021 budget, and seconded by Corey Martin, none opposed. Bob Keyser informed the board that a Recreation Board application was submitted for Lisa Atchley. Bob asked everyone to review the application/resume that was submitted and keep on file. Old Business: Bob Keyser requested an update from Pat White on the stadium becoming ADA compliant, Pat stated that the bids are ready to go out for the footings/concrete, there was general discussion among the board members. Bob stated that two items were recommended to the City Council: Topographic Survey be completed of Volanta park and the ADA compliant stadium project be completed, there was general discussion among the board. Bob suggested sending a letter to the Public Works Director for an update on these projects, the board agreed, Bob will compose a letter. Corey Martin stated that he is working to form a program with other volunteers, he said, the goal is to provide specialized sports training for the youth that may not be able to, due to their income level. Corey stated that he will send Pat White more information about this program. Bob Keyser stated that the Fairhope Soccer Club is going through some changes regarding the director and board members, he added that they are working to reassess the program. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:28 p.m.
