The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec
Center at 803 North Greeno Road.
Present: Corey Martin (arrived at 5:19 p.m.), Bob Keyser, Charlie Langham, Michelle Smith,
Derek Thomas. Absent: Vann Saltz, Pat White, Cathy Hudson and .lay Robinson. Gayle Fogarty
took minutes.
The meeting was called to order by Bob Keyser at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the October 2, 2019
meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Michelle
Smith, none opposed.
Old Business: Bob Keyser provided an update on the stadium, he stated that the City Council will
approve plans for the stadium to become ADA compliant at tonight's council meeting, he added
that once the bids go out and are approved, work is estimated to begin in January 2020.
Michelle Smith inquired about pool repairs and asked when they would begin and how long the
pool will be closed. Bob Keyser suggested that Pat White update the Rec Board on the pool project.
He also suggested moving the regularly scheduled December Rec Board meeting to December 11,
2019, the board agreed.
New Business:
Bob Keyser stated that the high school baseball field/program have obtained a demolition permit
to pull down the old concession stand and press box behind home plate. It will be replaced with
seating and a new concession stand. He added that the Booster Club is providing $10,000, the City
of Fairhope will provide $10,000 and the remaining amount are private donations totaling $60,000.
There was general discussion among the board regarding the plans for this project.
Bob added that he spoke with Pat White, he stated that a facility use agreement will be required of
all recreation leagues and schools. This written agreement will identify the terms of what facilities
are being provided and what the expectations are of both parties.
Additionally, Bob stated that the Gulf Coast Rangers will be required to obtain a franchise
agreement from the City of Fairhope.
Charlie Langham stated that the FHS Pirates were 6-5 in football this season, he added that
basketball and wrestling have started.
Michelle Smith stated that she has retired from her coaching business of Team Works Multisport
Training.
Corey Martin stated that Rec League Basketball has started, and there are 15-20 coaches. He
informed the Rec Board that the community is welcome to use the Rotary Youth Club gym, if
needed. He added that he and Tomas Catar have been working to create a National Jr. Tennis
Association Board, he added that a board meeting is set for November 18.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
