HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-02-2019 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, October 2 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present: Corey Martin, Bob Keyser, Charlie Langham, Vann Saltz, Michelle Smith (left at 6:10 p.m.), Cathy Hudson, Derek Thomas, Jay Robinson and Pat White. Guests: Mayor Karin Wilson (arrived at 5:25 p.m.) Andy Malone and Bruce Cuddy. Gayle Fogarty took minutes. The meeting was called to order by Bob Keyser at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the September 18, 2019 meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Vann Saltz, seconded by Charlie Langham, none opposed. New Business: Pat White proposed to the board reconfiguring volanta to accommodate four additional baseball fields and improve parking, the estimated cost is $1.585M. See attached proposal. Pat stated that volanta already has a maintenance facility, equipment and manpower. Mayor Wilson shared her thoughts on recreation properties in Fairhope. Mayor Wilson provided the board with the current balance of the recreation portion of the impact fees account: $1,522,692.00. Jay Robinson clarified for the board what impact funds can be used to purchase. A motion was made by Derek Thomas to recommend the Recreation Department's proposed plan to reconfigure Volanta park to the Fairhope City Council and, seconded by Corey Martin, none opposed. Michell Smith abstained from voting. Gayle Fogarty will send the motion to the City Clerk and request it be added to the next City Council agenda for consideration, per Bob Keyser. Bob informed the board that during the league summit set for January 2020, leagues need to be reminded that scholarships need to be advertised and available to players. He also stated that he and Charlie recently spent time at the Rotary Club. He commented that $75,000 is in the 2019- 2020 budget for new playground equipment. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
