The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, September 18 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at
803 North Greeno Road.
Present: Corey Martin, Bob Keyser, Charlie Langham, Vann Saltz, Michelle Smith and Cathy
Hudson (arrived at 5:27 p.m.), Tom Kuhl and Pat White. Absent: Derek Thomas and Jay Robinson.
Gayle Fogarty took minutes.
The meeting was called to order by Bob Keyser at 5:21 p.m. The minutes of the August 21, 2019
meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Vann Saltz, seconded by Michelle Smith,
none opposed.
New Business: Tom Kuhl announced that he is retiring from the City of Fairhope and Pat White
has been named the Parks & Recreation Director. The Recreation Board members shared their
appreciation for Tom's service over the years.
Pat White stated that Fairhope High School Homecoming is Friday night. Opening day for soccer
is Saturday at the Fairhope Soccer Complex and fall baseball started on Monday.
Bob Keyser informed the board that 114 acres of land was approved for purchase during the
Fairhope City Council meeting on September 9, 2019, he added that the land will be used for
recreation.
Updates: Tom informed the board that Fairhope Vikings are part of a new league and have a new
name: Fairhope Storm. He added that the Fairhope Storm season will run from February — April.
Michelle Smith stated that Master's Swim will host a meet on October 19.
Cathy informed the board that the first home high school meet will be held on Tuesday, and
mentioned that new swim blocks are needed, she added that she will speak with Tom in more
detail.
Corey stated that he met with Tomas Catar regarding helping low income kids play tennis. Corey
added that he doesn't think local sports league scholarships are being marketed to young kids.
Bob Keyser stated that during the recent Booster Club meeting there was discussion of needing a
ticket booth on the east side of the stadium, the idea was pitched to the capital projects committee.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
