The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec
Center at 803 North Greeno Road.
Present: Bob Kevser; Michelle Smith, Mary Gammer, Cathy Hudson, Derek Thomas, Vann Saltz
and Charlie Langham. Absent: Jay Robinson and Tom Kuhl. Gayle Fogarty took minutes at the
meeting.
The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the August 15, 2018
meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Bob Keyser, seconded by Charlie
Langham, none opposed.
Old Business: Bob Keyser informed the board that the indoor field at Fairhope High School is on
hold. The turf manufacture came back with a retail price to supply the turf, they talked to two other
companies and decided to provide the turf at no cost, if it was installed in Georgia.
Charlie Langham informed the board of a complaint he received regarding the football stadium
not being ADA compliant. Bok Keyser stated that Toni Kuhl informed him that he received a
complaint letter about the stadium not being ADA compliant. Bob spoke to Cecil Christenberry
about the need to make the stadium ADA compliant, Cecil indicated that he would check to see if
county funds are available for field maintenance, if they are, then he would see if Fairhope is
eligible to receive them. Bob also spoke to Jon Cardwell and he asked for a copy of the letter that
was sent to Tom, so lie could share the concerns with the school board. There was general
discussion among the board regarding the differences in metal and concrete with brick veneer
options to meet ADA requirements.
Bob added that Tom Kuhl has requested funding to make the stadium ADA compliant for several
years during the budget process, although that portion of the budget has not been approved. Bob
added that the Booster Club has not been approached about supporting this financial need.
Bob informed the board of the upcoming I lalloween tournament that has 1.37 teams signed up.
Updates: Cathy Hudson informed the board that the pool building construction is affecting the
swim team's schedule. but they are working around it. She added that St. Michael Catholic High
School is hosting a meet this weekend at the pool, with Mass following at 4 p.m. and then a meal
will be served. Cathy added that she is still having issues with the lifeguards.
Michelle Smith stated that Master's Swim is interested in helping purchase a new swine block for
the pool, but added that they will need to host some fundraisers to provide financial assistance.
Mary Gammer stated that the Fairhope Tennis Association (FTA) is planning a Christmas party;
hosting a round robin in October, a new president has been selected for FTA and added that the
backboard is doing good.
Charlie Langham informed the board that "Meet the Pirates" was a great success, and they ran
out of food. He also added that the golf tournament raised $10.000.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
