HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-15-2018 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, August 1 _-5, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present: Bob Keyser, Cathy Eludson, Vann Saltz and Charlie Langham. Absent: Jay Robinson, Michelle Smith, Mary Gammer, Tom Kuhl and Derek Thomas. Gayle Fogarty took minutes at the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the July 18, 2018 meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Bob Keyser, seconded by Charlie Langham, none opposed. Old Business: Bob Keyser informed the board that the indoor field at Fairhope High School that was discussed at the last meeting will be replaced entirely, rather than pulling out the infill and resetting it, now the only expense will be pulling up the field. This will be completed in September. New Business: Bob informed the board that: a change in direction has taken place with the recreational soccer program and stated that Snap Soccer will run the soccer tournaments. There was general discussion among the board members regarding the possibility of needing a franchise agreement; as the not for profit status is diminished with a club employee working for Snap Soccer and the club paying them to run the tournaments. The board also discussed performing audits of the leagues books, as this was done in the past. Updates: Cathy Hudson updated the board that 300 kids were on the team this year, they had 14 coaches and had 9"-10" grade students learning how to coach. She suggested extending hours for next summer and commented that she would talk to Noah. Cathy added that some children cut their feet on the blocks this summer. She informed the board that FAST would like to buy five of the eight blocks, each block costs $3,000-$4,000. She would like to speak to Master's Swim, Fairhope High School and the Booster Club about purchasing the remaining three blocks, and placing a plaque behind the lanes recognizing who purchased each block. This year she has 80 swimmers on the high school team, they will have three morning and five afternoon practices, and six home meets. Cathy informed the board that the lifeguards are using the team room as their breakroom, and not being respectful of the space, she would like to talk to "horn KLâ–șIll about finding them a new place for them to use as a breakroom. Charlie Langham informed the Board that "Meet the Pirates" will be at 6 p.m. onFriday and meal plates will be $7.00 each. He said, the FHS football team will host a goll"tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lakewood. lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Charlie added that they expect 100-125 players. He stated that next Friday will be the first FHS football -ame of the season and will be held in Wetumpka, the first home game will be on August 3l. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
