HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-21-2018 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday March 21, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present were Cathy Hudson, Mary Gammer, Bob Keyser, Tom Kuhl, Vann Saltz and Derek Thomas. Absent: Michelle Smith, Charlie Langham, Jay Robinson and Sherry -Lea Bloodworth. Gavle Fogarty took minutes at the meeting. Guest: Bruce Cuddy The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the February 21, 2018 meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Bob Keyser, seconded by Derek Thomas, none opposed. Guests: Bruce Cuddy of Fairhope Pickle Ball shared his feelings on the growing need. for more outdoor prickle ball space. He requested that the Fairhope Recreation. Board consider adding 3-4 regulation sized Pickle Ball courts at the tennis center and include funding in the future budget. Updates: Tom Kuhl informed the group that special Olympics will be held on March 23, 2018 at Volanta, also the tennis assistant positions have been approved by the council. Tom stated that he is continuing to look for property to be used for Recreation. Bob Keyser stated that he has received complaints about the youth football league and some of the players not receiving equal play time. Bob suggested sending a reminder to coaches of the participation rules. .Kathy Hudson added that registration for swim will be on April 14, 2018. She is working on getting summer coaches, she asked Tom, if the pool would close any during the summer. Tom stated that the building improvements are cosmetic, and the pool will not be closed this summer. Mary Gammer reported that the FTA tournament is coming up. Vann Saltz added that the Fairhope Rotary Club approached him and asked if the Recreation Department has any small projects that they could help fund.. Tom added that he has some ideas for playground equipment at the tennis center or the Fairhope Soccer Complex.
