HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-20-2017 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board September 20, 2017 The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present were Tom Kuhl, Mary Gammer, Charlie Langham, Bob Keyser, Derek Thomas, Vann Saltz and Robert Brown. Absent: Michelle Smith, Cathy Hudson, Jay Robinson, Sherry -Lea Bloodworth Botop. Tom Kuhl took minutes at the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the July 19, 2017 meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Mary Gammer, seconded by Bob Keyser, none opposed. Old Business: Charlie Langham made a motion to accept the franchise agreement for Jody Hoda to teach softball lessons, seconded by Derek Thomas, none opposed. He has all his paperwork in order, except his City of Fairhope business license and application fee, he will pay the fee and obtain a license if the Rec Board recommends to the City Council, and the City Council approves. New Business/Recreation Update: Tom Kuhl stated that Sherry -Lea Bloodworth Botop is working on the Recreation budget. He added that Rec is asking for the stadium to be ADA compliant, resurface track around field, new maintenance barn at Manley, visitor's side press box or tear the existing home press box down and build a 54-foot press box. There was general discussion of the cost, and pros vs. cons of the different press boxes. Tom also stated that small rate increases at Rec Center and Pool are being discussed for this budget year. He added that the Marina is being taken back by the City on October 15, 2017. The City will manage: 92 boat slips and a boat yard, the Marina will be added under Recreation, and the Council approved to hire a Marina manager. Tom added that opening day for soccer is this weekend, he said this is going to be a big fall season for sports. Vann asked about flag football, Tom told Vann that they are playing on two fields, and are enjoying it. Bob Keyser stated that the large soccer tournament will take place the weekend before Halloween in October. Mary Gammer informed the board that a tennis tournament will take place the third weekend in October. Derek Thomas added that the football field looks great. Charlie Langham commented that we have a great football team. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
