HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-19-2017 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board April 19, 2017 The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present were Vann Saltz, Jay Robinson, Mary Gammer, Charlie Langham, Bob Keyser, Derek Thomas, and Cathy Hudson. Absent: Sherry -Lea Bloodworth Botop, Michelle Smith, and Robert Brown. Tom Kuhl took minutes at the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:17 p.m. The minutes of the March 15, 2017 meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Bob Keyser, none opposed. Old Business: Tom Kuhl informed the group that he has not received anything from Stephine Reeves regarding a bio on Mike McLaughlin. Bob Keyser stated that he e-mailed Jessica Watkins of Get Fit by Jessica and requested that she complete the remainder of the application paperwork, she responded and let Bob know she received the message, no further action has taken place. Tom also updated the group on the Volanta Park Master Plan, he stated that Joe Comer presented the master plan at the work session on April 10, the City Council asked that cost of the project, but overall they were in favor of the plan. There was general discussion among the members regarding financial needs for Recreation. A motion was made to reappoint Charlie Langham and Derek Thomas for an additional 4-year term to the Recreation Board, on a motion by Bob Keyser, and seconded by Mary Gammer, none opposed. Recreation Update: Tom Kuhl informed the group that the lights and light poles are in for the tennis courts, meeting with Musco Lighting in the next couple weeks, no date for completion of the project has been set at this time. Tom mentioned that there is talk at City Hall about how to bring in revenue for the Recreation Department. There was general discussion among the members regarding involvement for the leagues. Announcements: Bob Keyser stated that the high school tournament went really well — about 38 teams, he added that 122 team tournament will be playing this weekend (April 29-30), this is the first time all the teams will play in Fairhope. He added that the middle school program - girls won their county tournament and boys were runners up, high school program- girls are 2°d seat, boys missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. Girls softball is 2"d in the state, Virginia Green, set a state/high school record. Cathy Hudson stated the county meet was Monday, also added that FAST is beginning sign up this Saturday and the City Meet will be the last weekend in July. Mary Gammer provided an update on the tennis tournament, she added that it was the biggest turnout to date. Charlie Langham added that football's practice begins first Monday in May, and baseball is underway. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
