The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at
803 North Greeno Road.
Present were Bob Keyser, Tom Kuhl, Charlie Langham, Cathy Hudson, Mary Gammer, Mike Ford,
Derek Thomas, Vann Saltz and Michelle Smith (arrived at 5:25 p.m.). Diana Brewer, Sherry Sullivan and
were absent. Gayle Fogarty took minutes at the meeting. Guest: David Pantovic, Collin Rust (incoming
president of FTA), David Mortison (current president of FTA)
The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the October 21, 2015 meeting
minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Bob Keyser, seconded by Mary Gammer, none
opposed.
Guests: David Mortison (current president of FTA) gave thoughts on type of tennis courts the City
should install on behalf of the FTA. David Pantovic attended to answer any questions the Rec Board may
have about the Point Clear franchise application he submitted. There was general discussion among the
board members and they decided fo hold over the recommendation of the Point Clear franchise
application to the next meeting.
Recreation Update: Tom Kuhl provided an update to the group, he stated that the City Council approved
the recommendation of the Rec Board to increase the fees of the rental of parks for tournaments. He
added that this would be a big help with providing appropriate personnel during tournaments, also stated
that the tennis bids will go out next week. There was general discussion about the lack of drainage at the
tennis courts. Tom noted that little league soccer, softball and baseball are complete for the winter.
Currently, he is talking with the soccer representatives about closing the fields beginning Monday for
maintenance of the fields.
Bob Keyser informed the group that the Halloween Tournament was a success, it was held Oct. 24-25,
2015. 120 teams participated and about 55 teams played in Fairhope. Bob inquired about the possibility of
a military discount being offered at Quail Creek. Vann Saltz stated that he spoke to Sherry Sullivan and
this item is still being looked into, although mentioned that the City's golf fees are the lowest in the area
without offering any type of discount.
Mike Ford mentioned the visitor's side press box and asked for an update, Tom Kuhl informed the group
that there is a space issue, Charlie Langham added that Rich Mueller is working on a design for the
visitor's press box.
Cathy Hudson informed the group that the girls won at the County Meet and the boys placed 211, for the
season 30 qualified for the meet and only 20 were able to be taken, 250 swimmers at meet.
Michelle Smith stated that master swimmers would like to submit some short and long term goals for the
upcoming summit that will be held in January of 2016.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
