The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803
North Greeno Road.
Present were Charlie Langham, Sherry Sullivan, Derek Thomas, Cathy Hudson, Jenny Douglass, Vann
Saltz, Mike Ford (arrived at 5:25 p.m.), and Gayle Fogarty took minutes. Tom Kuhl, Diana Brewer, Bob
Keyser and Michelle Smith were absent.
The meeting was called to order by Vann Saltz at 5:20 p.m. The minutes of the April meeting were
considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham, seconded by Cathy Hudson, none opposed.
New Business — There was general discussion among the group of potential applicants to fill the
upcoming vacancies on the Rec Board. The group decided to review all the applicants and discuss at the
next Rec Board meeting set for June 17, and make a recommendation to the City Council for the June 22
meeting. Jenny Douglass stated that she would like to roll off the board; Cathy Hudson stated that she
will reapply to be on the board for another 5 years.
Dave Mauritson of the Fairhope Tennis Association attended the meeting and commented that the FTA
open was a very popular event. He stated that if any extra money is made from the tournament, it goes
to the FHS tennis team.
Update — Sherry Sullivan provided an update to the group, mentioning the upcoming tournament and
summer camp dates listed on the agenda. She added that there was a pre -construction meeting held for
soccer on May 19, 2015, contracts for this project are being finalized. She added that dirt should be
moving by mid -June. Sherry provided an update on Tennis, stating that the bid -specs are being finalized.
She added that the budget is being wrapped up and the Rec Dept. will be purchasing a vacuum thatcher
that will be used on the baseball and football fields. Also, the concession stand work will begin in a
couple of weeks. The City is waiting on the design of the concession stand; it should be completed by
football season. Cathy Hudson stated that FAST has 190 registered swimmers. Charlie Langham added
that the BCBE will vote on FHS football support staff soon.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
