HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-15-2015 Regular MeetingMinutes of the Fairhope Recreation Board April 15, 2015 The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 5:15 p.m. in the Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road. Present were Tom Kuhl, Charlie Langham, Bob Keyser, Michelle Smith, Cathy Hudson, Jenny Douglass and Diana Brewer. Vann Saltz, Derek Thomas and Mike Ford were absent. Sherry Sullivan took minutes. The meeting was called to order by Bob Keyser at 5:25 p.m. The minutes of the March meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Michelle Smith, seconded by Jenny Douglass, none opposed. Discussion of Fairhope Paddleboard Franchise Agreement - There was general discussion among the recreation board members, also questions and answers provided by John Manelos of Fairhope Paddleboard LLC. Jenny Douglass made a motion to recommend that the Fairhope Paddleboard LLC Franchise Agreement be submitted to the City Council for approval, seconded by Cathy Hudson, none opposed. Discussion of Serenity Sail & Sleep Franchise Agreement — There was general discussion among the recreation board members; it was decided this agreement was better suited for the Harbor Board's consideration. Old Business — Bob Keyser provided an updated on Manley & Tennis. He stated that the Manley bids were awarded and the specs for tennis are currently being worked on. Also, there is a FTA tournament set for April 24-25, 2015. Dave Mauritson of the Fairhope Tennis Association presented a petition from a group of tennis players proposing clay courts be installed rather than hard courts. He added that he thinks that 50 to 75 % of the 103 people that signed the petition are Fairhope residents. He would like 4 clay courts and 2 hard courts to be considered as the configuration. Updates — Cathy Hudson stated that Fairhope will host the City meet on 7/24-25. Swim will donate a new sound system to the City pool as a gift. The Dive -In will be held at the pool on 7/3. Bob Keyser informed the group that the Mobile Bay Classic will be on May 9 & 10 with 140 teams participating. He added that the soccer playoff is 4/28 & 5/2, soccer 3 v 3 is going well, also the new concession at Volanta is on track. Also, the Battle of the Bay is 5/22 and graduation will be held on 5/19-both events will be held at Volanta.
