the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street
Present: Sue Mason, Chairman; Khim Vira, Colton Coile, Mike Baugh,
Jack Nelson; Mike Ford. Betty Rivenbark, Secretary
The minutes of the March 10, 2003 meeting were duly considered and
approved as written.
The status of the current project was discussed and Sue reported that
she has been working with Jake Gibbs of Thompson Engineering. The
grubbing and clearing has been done, the fence has been done as much
as can do now. We have 2 gates and will eventually electrify the gates so
they can be opened automatically. That they are waiting to put one piece
of fence so that the grading, and drainage can be done on the runway by
a piece of heavy equipment that can't fit in the gates. She said we have in
pocket one half of the money for grading and drainage this year and we
open bids June 6 for grading and drainage and'/2 of paving, that we are
doing project in 3 phases, the work will start the first of July.
Teledyne lease compliance was an agenda item. She had a copy of their
proposed fifth amendment to the present lease. The derelict plane was
brought up as an item that keeps them out of compliance with the lease
and Sue said she is not ready to consider this new amendment until they
come into compliance. Therefore this was tabled until the next meeting by
a motion from Colton Coile that he get with Bing Miller and ask what kind
of help he needs from the Airport Authority to have the derelict plane
removed before the next meeting. Mike Baugh 2"d the motion and it
carried unanimously.
A discussion was held on the leasing of the front area of the large hangar.
Sue shared information she had on this situation.
Sue had also passed out a copy of an airport security plan she had
implemented at the request of the police chief(copy in file) and said she
wishes to adopt a permanent status of Code Orange at the airport. She
said it would be August before the gate would be electric. She also
suggested adding to the memo that ramp traffic would be restricted. She
asked Jack and Khim to get together and come back at the next meeting
with a draft of a security plan.
Under annexation and deeding of the airport Sue reported that because of
the City Clerk's illness this has been held up. She said she would talk to
Tom Granger, County Engineer, and work with him on Bishop Road. She
will further write a letter to the City Council asking them to accept the
maintenance on Bishop Rd that we had to acquire in order to complete the
runway project.
CTAF/Unicorn Frequency. Colton had presented information on changing
the frequency of Fairhope as there is a problem with the present one
being overcrowded. Plus the fact that at night when you push the present
frequency it can be turned off by airplanes flying into nearby airports.
The frequency 123.0 was recommended and Colton said FAA would be
notified and FCC license can be done on line. Khim Vira moved to make
this change, Jack Nelson 2"d the motion and it carried unanimously.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
