March 19, 2014
The Fairhope Recreation Board met Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 5:15 p.m. in the meeting room at
the Recreation Center, 803 N Greeno Rd.
Present were Bob Keyser, Vann Saltz, Michelle Smith, Diana Brewer, Cathy Hudson, Tom Kuhl and Sherry
Sullivan. Absent were Derek Thomas, Mike Ford and Jenny Douglass. Gayle Fogarty took the minutes.
The minutes of the February meeting were considered and approved on a motion by Bob Keyser, second
by Cathy Hudson, none opposed.
Old Business — Sherry Sullivan provided an update to the members stating that no bylaws are currently
in place for the Recreation Board. She added that Charlie Langham has been recommended by the
Board to fill the open vacancy on the committee, once the bylaws for the Rec Board are complete, it will
be submitted to the City Council for review and they can determine, if they will accept Board's
recommendation of Charlie Langham. Sherry added that she will meet with Vann Saltz and Bob Keyser
on April 1, 2014 to create a draft of the bylaws and present at the next board meeting.
Update on Community Park - Sherry Sullivan provided an update to the group stating that April 20, 2014
is the estimated date to break ground at the park. Park is planned to open by June 1, 2014. The park
came in under budget, so a pavilion will be added to the design.
Recreation Update —Tom Kuhl provided an update to the group stating that the 10 Rotary fitness
stations have been delivered and will be installed next week. He added that the Special Olympics will be
held on March 21, 2014 at Volanta. Bob Keyser stated that 515 kids are signed up for Spring soccer.
Update on Manley Road - Sherry provided an update to the group on the Manley Road Soccer Complex.
He stated that he is waiting on the final design; once it is complete the project will go out on bid. Bob
requested a copy of the final field layout when it is ready.
New Business— Sherry Sullivan stated that Noah Williams is the new employee working at the Pool. He
will be over the Pool at the Recreation Center. Bob Keyser noted that the cost of the Manley Road
Complex has come up several times in discussion, as the budgeted $2 Million dollars will not cover the
cost of the project. He added some companies may be willing to make donations. Sherry Sullivan added
that the City will review the final plans of the project once complete, then will be able to decide what
items can be done in -kind. There was general discussion among the committee.
Cathy Hudson added that the first FAST board meeting will held on March 22, 2014. It was also
mentioned that FHS Soccer Senior Night will be held on March 28, 2014.
After no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
