The Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, April 17, at 5:15 p.m. at the
Recreation Center located at 803 North Greeno Road.
Present were: Chairman Vann Saltz, Tom Kuhl, Bob Keyser, Michelle Smith, Jenny Douglass,
Sherry Sullivan, Cathy Hudson, Kevin Grimes and City Council members Mike Ford & Diana
Brewer. Gayle Fogarty took minutes at the meeting. Absent: Derek Thomas
Vann Saltz called the meeting to order at 5:19 p.m. The minutes from the meeting held on
Wednesday, April 17, 2013 were reviewed and approved by 1'` motion by Michelle Smith and
2°d motioned by Jenny Douglass and unanimously carried.
Vann Saltz welcomed new members Cathy Hudson and Kevin Grimes.
Old Business-
Fairhope Community Park Update -
Vann Saltz mentioned that the recommendation discussed at the last meeting (March 20, 2013)
regarding the Fairhope Community Park has been made to the Fairhope City Council, although
no action has been taken at this time. There was general discussion of the Fairhope Community
Park.
New Business -
Report from Sherry Sullivan- Sherry updated the group on the fence at the Fairhope
Community Park. She stated that the City is moving forward with the fence bid, as installing a
new fence around the park is required to keep the lease on the property, per the Baldwin County
Board of Education.
Manley Road Update -
Sherry also added that Manley Road is on the council agenda for Monday, April 22, 2013,
the property will be leased until December 2013 to Fairhope Dairy. She also added that an
employee has been hired for the Tennis Center, his name is Brad Townson, currently his hours
will be Monday -Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sherry is meeting with Fairhope Tennis Association on
Tuesday to discuss how to schedule courts online, as this feature has already been set up. In
addition, upcoming tournament dates were noted
• Swim Meet -July 26-27
• Softball Tournament -April 27-28
• Fairhope Tennis Association Tournament April 26-28
Swim -
Michelle Smith informed the group that Mark Bernasconi would like to work with the Fairhope
Rotary Club to offer free swim clinics to adults. The Master's Team will help in offering free 30
minute sessions, teaching basics of freestyle on Wednesdays from 5:30-6 p.m. The Master
Swimmers feel this is a good opportunity to grow their membership. Individuals interested in
taking this free class would be required to pay the entry fee to the pool, if they are not already a
member. Michelle and Tom Kuhl will work together to coordinate.
There was also discussion of the Dog Park; Sherry feels that age is going to be an issue
on the new rules sign. There was general discussion among the group regarding the Dog Park
and age and how it was determined. Sherry informed the group that the large dog park is closed
to begin making the park handicap accessible.

Vann Saltz asked that Gayle Fogarty send the Rec Board 5 year plan to the Rec Board
members. Bob Keyser stated that Spring Soccer was up 20% with 380 children playing, also a
150 team tournament would be in town on May 11-12 and another soccer tournament would take
place May 27-30. He added that Senior Night is May 5.
Kevin Grimes provided an update on youth Baseball, stating that they are half way
through the season, 700 children are participating. Kevin added that he put a bid in for the 2014
State Tournament.
Sherry shared with the group that Tommy Smith contacted her requesting to play indoor
soccer at the Rec Center. Sherry stated that option would be on a Saturday afternoon. She added
that further discussion would be necessary and checking the schedule would be required to see if
this is possible. She also added that Fairhope Beach Volleyball league is underway and their first
game is May 5, cost is $100 a year to participate, they will play Sundays from 2-5 p.m. and must
be over 18 years old.
There being no further business the meeting was duly adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
The next scheduled meeting will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
