Tennis Courts — Bill Carroll and Mary Gammer spoke on behalf of the Fairhope Tennis Association, sharing their desire and need for additional tennis courts at Stimpson Field. Bill noted that the original plan for the tennis courts included 12 courts not 6. He encouraged the Rec Board to consider adding more courts, as tournaments could be held at the facility if more courts were available. He added that Fairhope High School tennis team uses the City of Fairhope courts as well. The Rec Board members agreed that more courts are needed. Bob Keyser added that he would like the Tennis Association to assist with scheduling, Bill Carroll added that the Association would be glad provide volunteers, but feels the COF needs an employee and authoritative figure at the courts to enforce the schedule. The addition of more courts is in the Rec Board's 5 year plan and expected to begin this year. Sherry Sullivan added that scheduling has been an issue for the courts, and once a City of Fairhope employee is hired to work at the Tennis Courts, hopefully this will alleviate some of the problems. Vann Saltz thanked the Fairhope Tennis Association for attending the meetings and sharing their requests. He said, he would inform the group as to when this project comes into focus. Adult Playground- Conyer Nordan attended the Rec Board meeting and shared his thoughts for an Adult Playground in Fairhope. See attached handout of design layout. The group discussed the design and possible cost involved. Sherry Sullivan mentioned that Thomas Hospital would like to be more involved in the community. This project maybe an opportunity for them to get some exposure, Sherry will speak with Diane, the new Infirmary Health grant writer and see if they are interested. The group also mentioned that Conyer may want to meet with Karen Wilson, as she had a similar concept in mind. Michele was asked to set a meeting with Conyer and Karen to compare designs and ideas and report back to the group. Dog Park- Sherry Sullivan updated the group on the dog park. She stated that no ordinances have been passed for the dog park. The rules are posted, but they were never passed by the city council, so they cannot be enforced by the City of Fairhope. Sherry provided dog park rules from other cities for the group to review. She also stated the age for children entering the park needs to be changed. Tom Kuhl added this is a safety issue. Bob Keyser added that the rules need to have an age requirement for children, but also needs to include adult supervision required. There was general discussion of the rules of the park among the group, it was also brought up that the Dog Park is currently not ADA accessible. Sherry will provide the current rules for the City of Fairhope Dog Park to the members prior to the next Rec Board meeting, set for March 20. New Rec Board Member- Gayle Fogarty e-mailed two Rec Board applications to the group prior to the meeting, to be considered for the open seat on the Board. The two applications included Kevin Grimes and Cathy Hudson. The group discussed the two applicants and asked that the bi-laws be reviewed to see if both applicants could be added to the Board. Community Park- There was general discussion among the group in regard to the Community Park. It was suggested that Diana Brewer invite Leanne Pearson and her group to attend a Rec Board meeting and share their suggestions for a new Community Park. New Business- Sherry mentioned that she had been contacted by someone interested in starting a beach volleyball team. It was suggested that the group be a pickup league this year and see how it goes.
