The Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 5:15 p.m. at the
Recreation Center located at 803 North Greeno Road.
Present were:, Jenny Douglass, Derek Thomas, Michelle Smith, Bob Keyser, Erik Cortinas,
Sherry Sullivan, Tom Kuhl, and City Councilman Mike Ford. City Administrative Assistant
Pandora Heathcoe took the minutes to the meeting. Absentees were: Chairman Vann Saltz, John
Baker, and Liz Chandler.
In the absence of Chairman Vann Saltz, Derek Thomas called the meeting to order. The minutes
from the meeting on Wednesday, April 20 , 2011 were reviewed and approved by I st motion by
Bob Keyser, and 2nd motioned by Erik Cortinas and unanimously carried.
Rec Center -Liz Chandler was out so Tom Kuhl reported that the replacement of the gym
flooring project is moving along . The City is removing the old flooring and the
new flooring is still in negotiations. Tom reported that dollar for dollar, the Rec
Center is almost exactly to the point as it was this time last year.

The skateboard park now has all the new equipment installed. The kids seem to be
enjoying it. Also the grant is almost close to completion.
Swim lessons will begin next week for the ages of 3 years old and up. The FAST
swimming practices began last week.
Erik Cortinas and the subcommittee are continuing to work on the 5-year plan. He
reported that he now has each project but they need to be placed in order by
priority level and dollar amounts need to be inserted as to the projected cost of
each project. This needs to be completed by mid June , however on May 26th there
is a primarily review of departmental capital expenditures.
Tom Kuhl , Sherry Sullivan, and Gregg Mims all met with Karin Wilson
concerning the proposed fitness trail. Discussions on several of the locations for
the equipment were questioned. Karin stated she still has to discuss things with
other committee members and then it will have to go in front of the City Council
for approval.
Bob Keyser reported that the Fairhope High School Booster Club voted and
approved the assistance of building a new concession stand in their five-year plan.
He also reported that they are also going in front of the City Council to request
$50,000 a year over a five year period . These funds will be used to build an in-
house training facility at the high school and a possible new track around the
middle school.

Business-Sherry Sullivan reported that the Senior Tennis Tournament went very well. The
members sent the Mayor and the City Council a letter thanking the City and also
thanking Tom and Sherry for their assistance .
She also reported that Hoover came to play an exhibition football against
Fairhope the week-end before the meeting. She said the downtown merchants and
the hotel reports were very positive. It was reported that the Hampton Inn booked
13 rooms and Holiday Inn Express booked 30 rooms from the event.
There being no further business , on motion to adjourn by 151 Jenny Douglass, 2 nd by Michelle Smith and
unanimously carried, the meeting was duly adjourned at 6:30 PM .
The next scheduled meeting will be held Wednesday, June 15 , 2011 .
