HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-19-2009 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Department of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday,
August 19, 2009, at 5:15 PM at the Volanta Municipal Park in the gym.
Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; Jenny Douglass, Hank Mullins, Vann
Saltz, Derek Thomas, Sherry Sullivan, Mike Ford, Eddie Boyett, Liz
Chandler, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary. Absent: Jim Godfrey, John Baker.
The minutes of the 15, 2009 meeting were considered and approved on
motion by Hank Mullins, 2"d by Jenny Douglass and unanimously carried.
Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie who gave the following reports:
He said the old gym and lobby, bathrooms had been painted, carpet
finished, floors re -waxed. He reported we are still waiting on an estimate
from Don Gordon about fixing the head wall at the holding pond.
He said that Don Gordon had donated the granite for the counter in the new
center. He mentioned the reappointment of all the expired members as
recommended at the last meeting. He also said that the Mayor had said the
mowers recommended purchasing at the last meeting will be taken care of.
He said he had a meeting with the people representing the dog park and
asked for their patience to get the park leveled as there are other more
pressing projects going on and they said that the delay would be fine.
Mike Ford reported back to the members on the offer we had made the
landowners for the 38 acres off of Hwy 13. He said they turned us down.
A lengthy discussion followed on whether this was the best place and should
we counter-offer. Pros and Cons were talked about and all agreed it would
be ideal spot due to location near Founders and Middle School. Mayor Kant
offered that he had conversations with Bob Callahan and was told there was
some land, about 20 acres, that might be available by the Immediate School
for use as recreation facilities. After all discussion consensus was conveyed
to Mike Ford to continue the negotiations for the 38 acres off of Hwy 13.
Charlie mentioned the great power washing job done by Eddie and his crew
getting the stadium ready for football games.
Liz explained to all the membership rates, the discount that will be offered to
City employees and that she will have a sneak peek week August 24t"
for employees, a soft opening August 31st and Grand Opening September
14th
Meeting was duly adjourned at 6:05 PM.
