Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie to update us on projects. He reported that the poles had been set at Barnwell, that they would probably finish up today. He said they had also set one at the Tennis Courts but still had more to do there. He said the building would probably be finished by the end of the month, that it is definitely a pretty building and encouraged everyone to go see it. He said the activity there has been steady and the walking trail has been a big success. He also reported that the signs requested had been put up telling when the high school will be using the facility so other players will know. The building for the recreation center was suppose to be delivered by 3/21 but he said it has been pushed back to 3/28 and then he expects things to pick up. The skate park contractors have two weeks to start and after that sixty days to complete, so he is anticipating that getting done. He said opening day is March 29th and had quoted some Spring Sports Numbers: Baseball sign up 750 kids Softball sign up 200 Soccer sign up 400 He said all of these programs are going wide open and that the parks are packed all the time. In new business Sherry brought up for discussion applying for status as a Playful City USA. There was no opposition but all wished to look at information and she said she would e-mail it to members. She also brought up possibility of Recreation Board sponsoring maybe once a month Movies on the Grounds at Faulkner, saying that this had been well received by the citizens as part of the Centennial programs. She said Faulkner did not have a problem with continuing it. The board wished to have more information on this before they committed to it asking: cost and how could we fit it in budget, would we really want to do it 12 months, who would work it, Sherry said she would provide information on this also. Mike Ford discussed with the board possibility of acquiring a piece of land for park that might be for sale on Nelson Road south of town. Comments generally were that the money it would cost would be better used on other projects. There being no further business meeting was duly adjourned at 6:00 PM. There were no April or May Recreation Board meetings.
