HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-19-2006 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 6:30 PM at the Volanta Street Park. Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; John Baker, Hank Mullins, Sherry Sullivan, Mike Ford, Jim Godfrey, Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary. Absent: Vann Saltz, Jenny Douglass, Derek Thomas. Guests: Jared Geattli, Mike Micropulos regarding the Skate Board Park The grant that we want to apply for is for a skateboard park at Volanta Park. Eddie brought the board up to date on the proposal that has been revised. He said they now wish to have sidewalks that run throughout the area with ramps, steps. It has changed from the proposal they submitted several years ago which was basically just a concrete slab. He said it would be 10-12 foot sidewalks and he gave the total linear footage. Jared said Ack Moore is going to draw to scale the layout of what they want. The grant will be for $100,000. Sherry asked what about other people wanting to use the trails. They replied of course they could when it was not in use. The members talked about applying and said they have been working on it for five years. We could not apply until the grant for the sidewalk was finished and we finally finished it this year. Eddie said he will definitely help them work on it. It was noted that there is an 8/1/06 deadline they have to meet. They were thanked for coming. The minutes of the May 2006 meeting were duly approved on motion by John Baker, 2nd by Jim Godfrey and unanimously carried. Eddie also brought to the board's attention and asked for their opinion the possibility of putting this skateboard park down at the south end of the beach. It was the consensus of the board to leave it at Volanta Park. John Baker moved, Hank Mullins 2"d motion to convey to the Mayor and Council that we wish to apply for a skateboard park grant to be located at the Volanta Street park. Eddie reported on the other programs and said every program is going well and in full swing. He also reported on the new field house being built and wanted to adjourn the meeting down there so everyone could see it. He said that a ribbon cutting has not been set but it should be finished in plenty of time for the first football game. Meeting was duly adjourned at 7:45 AM.
