HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-17-2005 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, August 17, 2005, at 6:30PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Charlie Langham, Jim Godfrey, John Baker, Derrick Thomas, Ginny Douglas, Hank Mullins, Sherry Sullivan, Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director; Mike Ford, Council Liaison and Betty Rivenbark, Secretary Absent: Vann Saltz The minutes of the July 20, 2005 meeting were duly considered and approved on motion by Jim Godfrey, 2nd by Derrick Thomas and unanimously carried. Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie Boyett who reported that he had gotten his new truck and he also reported that the road had been put in beside the gym going one way to Volanta but there has not been much traffic as school has started back up. He said the Jazzercise people are using it. He thought it would help with football traffic though. He said right now the signs are up one way but the rain has prevented them from painting signs. He reported that the portable restrooms had been lined up. That we will have them for two months, September and October and we provide a custodian but they will clean twice a week. He said they are 800 gallon units. Several questioned whether this capacity is big enough. We are facing probably 25 games at the field during this time. Eddie was asked about the piles of dirt at Volanta and said they are waiting for it to dry but it will be flattened out before the Daphne game. He said the soccer, football and tennis is all going strong. That cheerleading will be using the gym. Moving the tennis courts was talked about and he said there are some grants available, money out there but we need to find 20 acres to move Stimpson Field to. John Baker talked about the new building and said that his people have been unable to break loose, further discussion was held and he said in his opinion the lift station needs to be moved out to the parking area. Eddie said that the utilities would have to be located before moved and should be designed in accordance with code. Eddie said this would be at least a $30,000 cost to do it right. It was talked about changing the design and maybe save some money there. John Baker said he would send a letter to the mayor about moving the sewer. John was asked when he might have the plans and he answered October meeting. Eddie reported that the roll up doors at the pool needed fixing but they are suppose to be there this week and the hole at Founders Park had been fixed. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned. There was no September 2005 meeting. 195
