HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-11-2002 Regular MeetingThe Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met Monday, March 11, 2002 at 8:OOAM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Sue Mason, Chairman; Mike Ford, Khim Vira, members, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary After review, the January minutes were approved as written. Ms. Mason reported that the airport project has slowed down right now, that acquiring the property has been a problem and that Allen Timbes will be in town to meet with the council before the meeting Thursday evening and explain where we are and that it is time to move forward. Further discussion on the different properties was held and then it was explained that first we needed to pass a motion recommending to the Council that they proceed with condemnation. Khim Vira moved to pass this recommendation on to the council. Sue Mason 2"d and motion passed unanimously. Sue also discussed with the board the Teledyne situation. That beginning with last June they had requested a reduction in rent due to economics and that she anticipated this continuing. That she is trying to get with Tut Wynne, the City's Attorney, to see what we can do about getting back the front part of the office building that has not been occupied since Teledyne took over and which under the lease they are suppose to be using. She has been unsuccessful in contacting Tut so far, but will continue to do so. Under new business, a request was made to get a sense of the board on naming the airport in honor of Sonny Callahan. Discussion was held on the many things he has done for Fairhope including projects at the airport, and the Eastern Shore and the consensus was that we would like to do this. Mike Ford moved to recommend naming the airport in honor of Sonny Callahan, Khim Vira 2"d the motion and it carried unanimously. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
