HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-20-2004 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope Alabama met Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 6:30 pm at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street. Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; Jim Godfrey, Hank Miner, Larry Thomas, Sherry Sullivan, Mike Ford, Council Liaison, Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary. Absent: Vann Saltz, John Baker. The minutes of the August meeting were duly approved on motion by Jim Godfrey, 2nd by Hank Mullins, and unanimously carried. Eddie told everyone he is still looking for a Gator, it has been approved but hurricane stalled everything so he is now looking again. Larry Thomas tendered his resignation and was accepted. Discussion followed on replacement and he suggested his son Derrick. He said he would still be available if needed but had taken on other duties. Eddie also reported he is still trying to tear down the building at the football field. He was asked when did he need it down and he said by July 2005. He was asked if he had a building plan and said yes, Rich Mueller had drawn it up. It was decided we needed it by December meeting to show to council. Eddie said all the programs going full force, proud of what is going on. The board talked about meeting with the council at the November 17 meeting. Show them our master plan and set priorities for the next four years. It was decided to meet at Eddie's office on Nov 3 to go over masterplan and show everybody plans for new building at football field. Under discussion, Mike Ford brought up plan that Thomas Hospital is planning to buy land next to the Borom's and build a parking lot and he wanted to get board's thinking about possibly swapping Stimpson Field and have them give us some land elsewhere for a park . Discussion followed and it was a consensus that board did not wish to give park away, Hank suggested even turning into a tennis facility. Thought it was important to have park in town. Discussion followed on possible board members for vacancies. Hank Mullins moved to recommend Ginny Douglas for one position, Jim Godfrey 2nd the motion and it carried unanimously. The other vacancy will be discussed at a later date. 9 9'` Mike Ford brought up again problem at fields when event going on and handicap parking spaces are not available as they are suppose to be. Eddie will bring this to police attention and see if we can not help him out. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned at 7:20PM.
