The minutes of the January 19th meeting were considered and amended to
show motion on traveling teams passed unanimously. Motion by Trisha
McMahon, 2nd by Vann Saltz and unanimously.
Mike Baugh, the new Dixie Youth commissioner, was present and talked to
the board at length about the program. He said that they had signed up
over 500 kids and that they were doing work around the park in the amount
of $16-$17,000. They have been doing fence work, dugouts, signs, and
replacing crimson stone. They have built a playground (Thomas Hospital
will pay for) And even with extra money they plan to break even in the
program. He said April 17th is opening day and extended an invitation to
come, that they are expecting at least 2500 people to be at the park.
The program will run from mid April to mid June. He also said they had
spent $5,000 on new equipment. He said they have set policy where the
equipment is checked out so they will know who needs to return it at the
end of the season. In the course of the discussion two pitching machines
that are being stored over at the nut processing plant were talked about
and Mike said they would love to have them. He was told to get with Eddie
and see about getting them moved out to the park and set up.
Mike then talked about the "traveling teams". He told the board that he had
told the traveling team coach he could practice if there was a time available
that no one was using the field. He went on to say that the gridboard was
not completely finished so he does not know if there will actually be any
time left once all the teams have signed up. Mike was asking the board
what their position was on field usage and was told that Dixie Youth is the
official program recognized as using the fields. Further if any type of
problem developed he should get with Eddie as he would back him up in
what he said, as would the board. The board thanked him for all he is
doing and working with the youth.
Eddie told of all the programs that have gotten started. He said everything
is wide open on sports and going great. He said the pool is going great
better than what he had expected.
Eddie told of talking with John Strickland and how he hoped to help us get
state money to finish the pool. The dedication of the pool was talked about
and it was suggested having it April 25.
