HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-21-2003 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 6.30PM at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; members Vann Saltz, Jim Godfrey, Hank Mullins, Trisha McMahon, Sherry Sullivan, John Baker, Larry Thomas, Eddie Boyett, Recreation Director, Mike Ford, Council Liaison, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary. No one was absent. The minutes of the April 16, 2003 meeting were duly considered and approved on motion by Trisha McMahon, 2"d by Vann Saltz and unanimously carried. The meeting was turned over to Eddie Boyett for reports, Eddie said the pool was coming along well. That the building going on even with the rain. He said the money was approved by the council. Under old business, John Baker reported on meeting with Bob Keyser a couple of weeks ago and that proposed soccer field still on track. He said he did not know a time frame. All agreed it was not time to go to school now, have Eddie chat with Mark Lassiter. Vann mentioned that a masterplan is being developed by the high school booster club. Eddie had brought to the board proposed rates to charge at the new pool.(copy in file) He said that he had nothing to compare these with, could not compare to YMCA in Daphne as they had other charges, he also did not have any idea about staff it might take. He said the plan is to connect the gym with the pool on the north side and incorporate the gym with the pool. Further discussion led to a motion by Larry Thomas to approve the rates as presented and if necessary look at again in 6 months. Vann Saltz 2°d the motion and it carried unanimously. He did not have a feel for time the pool will be open yet. Eddie also made a report to the board on the condition of Stimpson Field after a softball tournament put on by Vaughan Kelly. He reported huge amount of beer cans, trash that he and his wife spent hours picking up on Sunday after tournament. He is requesting the board review operating procedures especially for tournament play as it is not working and is not beneficial for the city. Charlie asked that everyone think about this problem and be prepared to address it at next month's meeting. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned at 7.15PM
