HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-19-2003 Regular MeetingThe Recreation Board of the City of Fairhope met Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the City Administration Building, 161 N. Section Street at 6:30PM. Present: Charlie Langham, Chairman; Jim Godfrey, Hank Mullins. Eddie Boyett Recreation Director, Mike Ford Council Liaison, Betty Rivenbark, Secretary The Board considered the December 4, 2002 minutes and January 22"d minutes and a motion was made by Jim Godfrey, 2"d by Hank Mullins to approve as written. Charlie officially welcomed Hank Mullins as a new member replacing Bob Callahan who resigned due to his election on the Baldwin County School Board. Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie who reported that we were wide open with baseball and soccer. He said Tuesday night that all the fields were being used and people were playing tennis, the only thing that wasn't going on at the park was swimming. He said that Opening Day for baseball had been held Saturday. He mentioned the Mayor and Mike Ford being there. Eddie said the pool is progressing that they are shooting for opening in July. But, they are also planning to open the old pool in May if they need to. He said that bids had gone out on site work and metal building. He said the construction manager and architect are handling this and that already we have made tremendous savings just by them knowing what we needed. He said the ACHVAC and plumbing bids will go out Friday. He said so far we have been coming in under budget but he doesn't know what the ACHVAC will be, he has heard it is high. He said that we will be able to heat the indoor pool that was not a significant cost. He talked about the french drain system under the new pool and said it ties into the present system. He said they are sticking pretty much to timetable set for them. Under old business, the skateboard park was discussed again. Eddie said he had heard that the Mayor still wanted to have it downtown on the old tennis courts behind the K-1 Center. Mike Ford said yes, Jim Godfrey said he thought it was conveyed that the Rec Board wanted it out at Volanta, put on tennis courts and build new ones. Mike said that he was told that the better place would be the old tennis courts at the K1 Center and the Police Chief thought so to. Discussion went on with which better with no decision made. Eddie stressed that rules and regulations would be made that they would have to comply with and that would have to understand that if they don't obey they would lose the facility. This to be worked out at the time it is needed. The basketball team celebration was talked about and how best to recognize their 32 - 1 season. Charlie also mentioned how great all the fields looked and the boys are to be congratulated. There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
