Charlie officially welcomed Hank Mullins as a new member replacing Bob Callahan who
resigned due to his election on the Baldwin County School Board.
Charlie turned the meeting over to Eddie who reported that we were wide open with
baseball and soccer. He said Tuesday night that all the fields were being used and
people were playing tennis, the only thing that wasn't going on at the park was
swimming. He said that Opening Day for baseball had been held Saturday. He
mentioned the Mayor and Mike Ford being there.
Eddie said the pool is progressing that they are shooting for opening in July. But, they
are also planning to open the old pool in May if they need to. He said that bids had
gone out on site work and metal building. He said the construction manager and
architect are handling this and that already we have made tremendous savings just by
them knowing what we needed. He said the ACHVAC and plumbing bids will go out
Friday. He said so far we have been coming in under budget but he doesn't know what
the ACHVAC will be, he has heard it is high. He said that we will be able to heat the
indoor pool that was not a significant cost. He talked about the french drain system
under the new pool and said it ties into the present system. He said they are sticking
pretty much to timetable set for them.
Under old business, the skateboard park was discussed again. Eddie said he had
heard that the Mayor still wanted to have it downtown on the old tennis courts behind
the K-1 Center. Mike Ford said yes, Jim Godfrey said he thought it was conveyed that
the Rec Board wanted it out at Volanta, put on tennis courts and build new ones. Mike
said that he was told that the better place would be the old tennis courts at the K1
Center and the Police Chief thought so to. Discussion went on with which better with
no decision made. Eddie stressed that rules and regulations would be made that they
would have to comply with and that would have to understand that if they don't obey
they would lose the facility. This to be worked out at the time it is needed.
The basketball team celebration was talked about and how best to recognize their
32 - 1 season. Charlie also mentioned how great all the fields looked and the boys are
to be congratulated.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
